Gluing, sticking and 'professional colouring in...'

In 2011 I packed in my 'real' job to embark (no pun intended) on a life as a pet portrait artist, or as a friend of mine so delightfully calls it - 'Professional Colouring In'.

I've always been artistic but I haven't always known in which direction to take my creativity. So it was actually my little dog Barley who first inspired me to pick up a paintbrush and attempt to paint her portrait, after not having painted for some 20 years. After remembering that I could paint, I also turned my hand to a bit of gluing and sticking, and went on to develop all the other crazy, crafty and creative ideas in my head and start turning them into Actual. Bone-afide. Products. And hence, Wet Nosed Friends by Sally Grist Artwork was born.

I take my inspirations from the walks I take with Barley, out in the countryside or down by the shore. I'm passionate about natural materials, the textures in nature are stunning. Whether it’s pebbles on a beach, or bark ridges on an ancient tree trunk... I love to see the colours and feel the textures. Hence, so many of my designs feature natural pebbles and woodgrain.

Coupled with my love of animals - and dogs in particular, I found my niche in creating nature-inspired crafts that were aimed at fellow pet-lovers. Funny, sincere, original, and all with a dash of irresistible wet-nosed charm. My aim is to make all my creations exquisitely different, beautifully designed, and handcrafted exclusively by me, right here in my 'Kraft Kennel' in the UK.

Where possible I use recycled timber off-cuts, paints with no harmful additives, and local businesses for all my supplies. The result is that my brand has a truly eco-friendly value and quirky appeal to fellow pet-parents the world over.

These days having a full time job of ‘gluing, sticking and professional colouring-in', I consider myself very lucky that I can get up in the morning and think “Well it’s work, but it doesn’t feel like it”.

Frequently asked questions
Wholesale availability

I am often asked if I can supply my items to third parties such as 'drop shipping' websites and other pet-related businesses. Unfortunately I'm not able to do this at this moment. As my items are all handmade, I can't manufacture enough quantity to supply wholesale and there isn't enough of a profit margin to enable me to sell at a reduced price anyway. So sorry!

Do you ship to the US?

YES! I ship worldwide from the United Kingdom. If you can't find a shipping price to your country on the item listed, just contact me and I'll work it out.
Unfortunately some of my larger items such as the dog beds and toy boxes are VERY expensive to ship, but there's nothing I can do about this. Please understand that these items are very large and very heavy. If I could ship them for less I would!

Can you sell me the bone shaped plaques/handles/other components separately?

Sorry, no I don't sell these materials separately.
These unique components help make my products instantly recognizable, and form the basis of the Wet Nosed Friends brand that I've worked hard to create. I'm striving to be original and exclusive, and to meet a high standard of craftsmanship. Therefore I feel that selling bits of my designs for customers to do their own DIY, might dilute my brand and my products in a way that I'm not keen to do.

Will you donate an item to my charity/auction/raffle?

I get MANY requests to donate items, but my funds are already very tight as it's hard to make a living as an artist. Even so, I already organise fundraisers of my own, and donate many products to personally selected charities throughout the year.
I generally don't donate items to strangers, but prefer to prioritise requests from paying customers over anyone else. It seems only fair that I make a sale from the arrangement, rather than just sending out a neverending stream of freebies at my own expense.
So if you wish to combine your request with a purchase from my shop, you'll stand a far greater chance of achieving a donation than if you're a stranger who's never actually supported my business. I always look after my customers first!

Will this dog bed be the right size for my dog?

The best way to determine whether our dog beds will fit your dog is to measure your dog's current bed and see how that compares. I also recommend having a look through my Facebook album of 'happy customers'. where you'll find lots of pics of different dogs in our beds, to give a better idea of scale: (copy this link and paste into your browser: )

The largest size we currently make is 75 x 54 x 25cm (29.5 x 20.5 x 10") externally, minus around 20cm inside for the snuggly cushion walls.

If you're between sizes, always go for the larger size. A bed that's too small can be cramped and uncomfortable, but if it's too big and you can just pad it out with extra snuggly cushions, blankets, toys, or even a companion!
