Welcome to Sally Hoban, an individually curated collection of fine vintage and antique clothing and accessories brought to you by Dr Sally Hoban and her husband Steve Pritchard. Their client list includes international fashion houses such as Roberto Cavalli, Ralph Lauren and Liberty & Co; TV and film production companies including Pinewood and Ealing Studios; The National Theatre and private collectors and lovers of vintage fashion with a discerning eye across the world. Sally Hoban's clothes and accessories have appeared in recent TV series including BBC's 'Peaky Blinders' and ITV's 'The Durrells.'

Sally is a UK based fashion and design historian and writer and is the author of the book Miller's Collecting Modern Design. She has broadcast on BBC Antiques Roadshow, BBC Two, BBC Four and BBC Radio Four. A love of collecting antiques from childhood (including growing up with what seemed to be the best dressing up box in the world that often included 1920s shawls, beaded dresses and handbags) led to a professional career as a design historian, and a lifetime of collecting, wearing and researching the most beautiful fashions from the past. She lectures across the world and has written about fashion, antiques and design for the national and international media. Her Doctorate from The University of Birmingham uncovered the work and life stories of previously unknown women designers of the British Arts and Crafts Movement. Sally has led the Hallmarking and antique jewellery courses at the Birmingham Assay Office and she also worked with its magnificent historic silver collection.

Steve has 25 years experience in design, retail and music video production (his father Barry Pritchard was a founder member of The Fortunes, a British harmony pop group who achieved international fame in the 1960s). Steve's love for design comes from close family friend Ian Gibson, who is known for his illustrations for 2000AD including Judge Dredd and Halo Jones.

Do let them know if you are looking for anything in particular as they are always sourcing new items and will be happy to help you with your search. They also offer a valuation and appraisal service for antiques, vintage clothing and textiles, and bespoke events including lectures, tours, vintage clothes experiences and study days. Contact them at www.sallyhoban.com to find out more.

Sally and Steve are now delighted to bring you their ever-changing collections of the finest quality vintage fashion, accessories and antiques. The focus is on the 1920s and 1930s but the collections also include designer pieces from later decades. The truly distinctive vintage pieces in their shop are chosen for their quality, individuality and good design. As Jacqueline du Pasquier says in ‘A Guide to Elegance’, first published in 1954, “There is no such thing as mass-produced elegance … the things that matter are quality, simplicity and good design … true elegance is a way of life, a way of feeling, thinking and doing." Vintage pieces are often of much better quality and design than more modern, mass-produced pieces and if you look after vintage it could well increase in value in the future.

Sally and Steve hope you enjoy disovering the pieces in their collection as much as they enjoy finding them and sharing them with you. Layaway is available, please message for further information.

Frequently asked questions
Care instructions

We will be more than happy to advise you on the care of your vintage purchases, please ask us for more information when you buy. Antique and vintage items can be delicate, especially silk, beaded and chiffon items, so it is always best to wear and enjoy them with care to avoid damage.

Sizing details

Due to the one off nature of vintage items, we do not accept returns for items that do not fit. Please check your measurements carefully before you buy. We measure all our pieces as accurately as we can, usually when they are laid flat, and where possible give waist, length and bust/underarm to underam measurements. If you require further information about measurements please contact us before you buy. It's a good idea to compare the measurements in the item description against one of your existing garments that fits you well. We provide accurate measurements of all our items, including bags and purses, in each listing so that you can check that the size of the item meets your needs before you purchase it.

Shipping

We ship all orders via Royal Mail tracked, or signed and tracked depending on your country. Shipping insurance is not included in our standard shipping cost, or with our free shipping option which is available for items priced at over £1,000. If you would like shipping insurance please contact us prior to purchase and we will change the shipping cost for you. Sally Hoban is not responsible for items lost or damaged in the post, or for unclaimed or undeliverable items. If an item is undeliverable and is returned to us, the buyer is responsible for the additional postage cost to resend the item. Express shipping is available on request, please contact us before you purchase to arrange.

Condition of vintage items and returns

All our items are vintage, so will have been worn, loved and many will be quite old, so most items will have signs of wear. Please do not expect perfection unless an item is stated as being perfect. We describe obvious flaws, wear or damage to the best of our ability so that you can make an informed decision to buy. Please note that colours may vary slightly depending on your individual computer screen/smartphone screen. We do not accept returns but please contact us if you feel an item has been grossly misrepresented in the description. We don't accept cancellations on orders if they can't be delivered and you do not collect them from your post office or make delivery arrangements. By buying from us you agree to our policies/conditions.
