About

Passionate about fabric and the excitement of reworking upcycled and recycled materials into things of beauty.

I began using my mother's hand operated sewing machine at the age of three. It was always out on the dining room table and I began using my mother's scraps to make clothes for my toys. I have always been a bit of a magpie with fabric, unable to resist colour and pattern and with a desire to fashion it into something joyful.

A few years ago my husband and I were lucky enough to move to the coastal town of Ventnor on the Isle of Wight. During our house renovations we met an upholsterer. I was horrified to discover that he discarded the off-cuts of fabric from his work. Not any more! Because I never know what I am go to get and because I rarely receive large pieces, I have to let the fabric dictate its use to me and the bag I can make with it. To that end I have reworked/designed a small range of bag patterns that best lend themselves to these random pieces of fabric. The linings are in the main recycled curtains and bedding from local charity shops (all washed of course!). All other trimmings and embellishments are sourced locally wherever possible. My ethos is to repurpose, recycle, save on waste and keep down the carbon footprint. My belief is that there is no reason why things of beauty cannot also be environmentally friendly.

Three years ago I began selling my bags in a small shop locally and also by word of mouth across the island. I am now really excited about the prospect of selling across the UK via my Etsy shop.

Frequently asked questions
Sizing details

All listings include full measurements in both metric and imperial

Custom and personalised orders

Because I work with off-cuts and I never know what I am going to get, I am unfortunately unable to undertake custom orders.

Care instructions

For the most part the items should only be cleaned with a damp sponge. Most of the Beachy/Totey bags can be hand washed at 30 degrees. Warm iron only may be used with great care but NEVER iron the Beachy/Totey bags water resistant base panel or place on any hot surfaces. Each listing includes care info.

Gift wrapping and packaging

I offer an inexpensive gift wrapping service. In line with my ethos of recycling, I use recycled tissue paper, recycled fabric ribbon and other recycled embellishments.

Wholesale availability

Because I use recycled off-cuts, I am unable to make repeat items, each bag is unique. This has proved limiting to the wholesale market, but I am open to offers!
