I studied on a Textiles and Surface Design degree course in North East England. I have always had a passion for block printing, ever since I was first introduced to it by my GCSE art teacher. I first tried working with polyprint sheets and soon moved onto actual lino cutting once I had accumulated the right tools for the technique.

My style has since changed and I am currently working with digital print alongside the block printing so create a more contemporary look overall. I have also had a love for embroidery since my mother taught me when I was a lot younger. I think I enjoy it because it keeps my hands and brain busy while doing something relatively simple.

One of my first inspirations is a printmaker called Angie Lewin. She focuses on wood block and lino printing techniques using imagery of the Norfolk coastline and items found there. Her colour palettes are made up of beautiful pastels or fun bright colours, and her prints are so detailed and precise. I also have a love of the Pop Art movement and artists like Andy Warhol and Roy Liechtenstein.

Thanks for sticking around,
Sarah Kristen
