Unconventional Obfuscation Artist Or someone who up-cycles art out of random bits.

Shal Mines is a 48 yr old artist living and working in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, England.  She, as many children did when she was younger did lots of drawings but gave it up once she reached her teens.  Then back in 2013 after a period of personal problems and then finding a large lipoma in her leg, she went back to college as a mature part time student to study Art and Design.

She has now completed a Foundation & HNC in Art & Design and will be going on to do a B.A. at University of Bedfordshire.

Shal has taken part in various exhibitions over the last couple of years and sold work in galleries including The Mall Galleries in London. The Ripley's Believe it or Not Museums also own one of Shal's creations.

Shal is also an Aphant.

Aphantasia is the suggested name for a condition where one does not possess a functioning mind's eye and cannot visualize imagery.[1] The phenomenon was first described by Francis Galton in 1880,[2]but has remained largely unstudied since. Interest in the phenomenon renewed after the publication of a study conducted by a team led by Prof. Adam Zeman of the University of Exeter,[3] which also coined the term Aphantasia.[4] Research on the subject is still scarce, but further studies are planned.

She only discovered she had this phenomenon after receiving therapy for  chronic voice loss, finding she couldn't answer the visualisation questions she was being asked.  Coming across a post about Aphantasia she realised she had the condition then she started to understand why she couldn't get concepts down onto paper or keep certain memories in her mind.  She doesn't feel that it holds her back if anything it she feels it helps her art as she sees the world in a different way.

Future plans involve larger scale works and entering more competitions, shows and more involvement in creating commissions.
