For now he's on the fireplace mantle....really like the textured background as it offsets the orange fur of the fox so well.

Etching, a method of making prints from a metal plate, into which the design has been incised by acid

I specialise in soft ground etchings.
To make an etching I draw the picture and then make impressions of feathers, leather, lace, leaves and grasses into a soft wax that covers the surface of a zinc plate. This is then immersed in acid that 'bites' grooves into the plate wherever the bare metal is exposed. I repeat this process numerous times, gradually building up the textures and tones until the image is complete. The plate is then inked by hand; pressing the ink into the grooves and wiping the surface clean with muslin and tissue paper. This goes through a press with damp paper that lifts the ink from the lines creating a mirror image print from the etching plate.
I then print a limited edition that are numbered, named and signed.
As the etching plates are individually hand inked and wiped slight variations in the colour and tone across the editions is characteristic of these artworks.
