Shield Studio Pottery produces beautiful hand thrown ceramics. Primary stoneware clay and reduction firings, typically with shino or ash based glazes rendering non-uniform and unpredictable surface colour influenced heavily by the firing techniques. Varying the firing schedule and the glaze application methods constantly produce different finishes to the aesthetic. Earth tones, satin sheens and texture from the clay body are qualities Iain enjoys in his pots. Expect natural hues, satin matte textures and variation in finish.

Iain lives in Abingdon, Oxfordshire and runs a micro pottery alongside a busy full time job and his young family. He has been throwing for over ten years and has developed techniques through tuition from several well known potters and Sunningwell school of art. Iain is constantly developing in ceramics expertise; making his own glazes, sourcing ‘wild’ materials, designing and building his own kilns and is now part of Oxfordshire Craft Guild. Iain teaches throwing locally, exhibits regularly and has a deep respect for craft and creativity.
