My Journey in Creating Tarot Decks
Every deck begins with a quiet question: What does the world look like through these cards?
It started with my own fascination with tarot—not as a tool for fortune-telling, but as a mirror for self-reflection. I noticed many beautiful decks felt distant, while beginner-friendly ones lacked the soul of the craft. I wanted to bridge that gap: to make tarot feel both deeply personal and accessible to everyone.
The first step was always research. I dove into the symbolism of the Rider-Waite-Smith system, studying the archetypes, color meanings, and subtle details that give each card its voice. But I didn’t stop there. I spent hours sketching mood boards, experimenting with styles—from whimsical cats and soft pastels to moody stained glass and handcrafted clay textures. Each deck became a love letter to a different aesthetic, designed to resonate with different souls: the cat lover, the pastel dreamer, the dark academia enthusiast, the gentle healer.
Next came the process of bringing those sketches to life. I worked closely with artists to refine every line, color, and detail, ensuring the art honored the tarot’s core while breathing new life into it. I tested multiple materials: smooth matte cardstock, glossy gold foil, waterproof PVC, and thick, durable paper. I shuffled prototype decks hundreds of times, checking for ease of handling, durability, and how the art held up in candlelight, natural light, and every moment of use.
Packaging was never an afterthought. I designed each box to feel like a gift—something you’d be excited to open, hold, and keep. Whether it’s a sleek black box with gold lettering, a soft pastel case, or a whimsical illustrated tin, every element is crafted to match the vibe of the deck inside.
Finally, each deck is paired with a clear, beginner-friendly guidebook, explaining the core meanings, symbols, and simple spreads to help new readers feel confident. For me, it’s not just about making cards—it’s about creating a little ritual, a tool for connection, and a companion for anyone on their spiritual journey.
Over time, my collection grew, each deck reflecting a different chapter of my own exploration. What began as a personal curiosity has become a mission: to make tarot that feels like you—authentic, beautiful, and ready to be held.
