Announcement
NEXT UPDATE: MARCH 31st. Please read this announcement for boring, but very important information: I'm not currently taking on any custom orders because I'm a big meany and I need to keep my focus on making batts, getting the workshop empty and my new workshop ready etc. I'm sorry. I might open that up again in the future.
EU orders! This is really important - PLEASE do not mark EU orders as GIFT. When you do that it wipes all the EUR payment data from the invoices and it takes me so much longer to do the paperwork to send. I have to make additional invoices as well as the slips that etsy supplies. It's a lot of sums and my brain is full of fluff. You can use the notes to seller to let me know it's a gift and you can leave a little message. Honestly, the message I print out is much nicer than the one Etsy does :D
All international orders are sent with TRACKING (where it's available). Don't forget shipping is still a little slow in some places.
I'll be moving out of my workshop soon and to make the move lighter I'm attempting to get through as much scrappy bits of fluff (and some good fluff too) as possible, so I'm totally focused on making *scrappy batts*. My aim is to have the shop full of scrappy batts by my next update, and possibly the following updates. The space I'll be moving into is a little bit smaller so I don't want to overwhelm it with fluff otherwise I won't be able to function in there. My big hope for 2023 is that by April I can get back on task with my shop. We've all had just a few too many knocks these past few years.
If you're new to my shop (Hiya!), you may be wondering what scrappy batts are. Basically, they're batts that I make on my carder but I don't follow a recipe. They're mostly made up of scrap fibres that are left over from weighing out my other batts (my other batts follow a recipe with different weights for different colours). I'll also experiment with new colourways and sell them as scrappy batts too, and other times I'll just make batts in the moment. The other thing about scrappy batts is that I sell them a lot cheaper than my usual batts (YAY!). Each one is photographed but I don't write down all the additives in there as that takes a lot of time. But you'll get a good idea of what you're getting from the photograph. There may be sparkle, and texture, and some hand dyed bits, and sari silk, and rare breeds. Some batts may get carded twice so they're extra 'buttery' and some go through the carder once so they're a bit chunkier. Scrappy batts are great for beginners too. Sometimes when you're learning it's fun to just jump in with some mad fibres.

5 out of 5 starsThis one reminded me of pink dragon fruit. Especially with the grey/white inner fibre with black speckles of silk. It was so much fun to spin.

Frequently asked questions
Can you mark the CN22 Customs label as 'gift' so I don't have to pay VAT?
NO.
Please do not ask me to do this. Your items will be marked as 'Sale of goods' and you are responsible for paying the VAT and handling charge for your country. Booooo!
My order hasn't arrived and I'm getting worried. What should I do?
Don't worry! Message me here on ETSY and let me know that your order hasn't arrived. We'll take it from there. Sometimes there are strikes, bad weather, and general mistakes that can really delay a parcel.
ETA: Also Coronavirus safety measures are in place world-wide and this will delay your parcel. Delays can take MONTHS.
Do you do wholesale?
Wholesale makes me anxious BUT if you're local and want to try stocking some small amounts of my stuff, give me a shout.
How do you package your fibre?
Most of my fluff is packaged in clear cellulose biodegradable bags that I buy from Eco-craft.co.uk. My hand dyed braids/tops are wrapped in tissue paper.
The Eco-craft site says ''These bags are made in the UK from cellophane film that has been accredited biodegradable & compostable to 'BS EN 13432' and 'OK Compost'. They are also approved for Anaerobic digestion (ISO 15985) & Marine biodegradation ASTM D6691-09. The film has also tested to ensure that once composted there are no adverse effects on the plant growth''
I may occasionally send items without any packaging.
What sort of mailers do you use?
I'm sending most UK orders in kraft paper mailers. International orders are being sent in grey recycled plastic mailers as they are lighter and help keep the cost down (extra weight can increase postage by a significant amount). If you really want your order sent in a brown paper mailer, please contact me when you order so I can adjust the postage.
Is your Merino non-mulesed?
YES! and it always has been.
My batts and tops are made from 21 micron Merino supplied by Wingham Wool and World of wool. My yarn bases are supplied by Chester wool. All from the UK
Verpackungsgesetz Packaging Register Germany
Spin Jones is now registered with Lucid (DE2923740435689) and my Duel System Licensing partner for the collection, sorting and recycling of the packaging is ACTIVATE by RECLAY.
Your orders will arrive in Kraft paper packaging, or a cardboard box. Your batts will be sent in brown paper bags without the biodegradable Natureflex packaging.
