NEW CUSHION COLLECTION
Exciting News! After a successful trial at my recent Open Studios Exhibition here in the Welsh Borders I've finally launched the first pieces in my new collection of cushions. Printed on a natural cotton/linen union these superb prints are set to grace any sofa or bedroom. Delivery times will shorten over the coming weeks as I build stock for my forthcoming exhibition at The Found Gallery a stunning new contemporary gallery space in Brecon where I will be exhibiting from mid October through to Christmas. Keep an eye out as new designs will be appearing over the coming weeks.
MINI PRINTS
I have started producing Mini Prints - An opportunity to use up small scraps of Lino and Printing paper that would otherwise be binned or recycled. Carved with the same level of love and detail as the larger works these little vignettes are perfect gifts and a bargain starting from £12.50.
MY WORK
All sale pieces have been created in my Print and Design studio set in the rolling countryside of the Welsh Borders. Here you can buy limited edition intaglio and relief prints (hand produced on the Studio Press) and a selection of original theatre and costume designs from my 25 years working as a freelance Opera Designer as well as original oil, acrylic and watercolour paintings and sketches,
My work is eclectic and uses a wide range of mediums and printmaking techniques (and a gentle smattering of satirical humour).
Whether you are looking for a statement work for your wall or a gift for a friend, a handmade greetings card or a nude for the bedroom, browse at your leisure for like a good book the treasures lie within...

About Studerfineart
Life in the studio...
Carving a living out of Lockdown...
It's not been the easiest twelve months for anyone - As an opera director and designer, like others in the creative industry my diary has been decimated with theatres closed. Similarl, apart from one exhibition in November (abruptly halted by the second lockdown here in Wales) the opportunities to sell my pictures has also dried up so I've been busy working on my Etsy Shop!
Time on my hands has led me to start working with Linocuts again - I love this technique, there is something so intensely therapeutic about carving the blocks. I've a new puppy in the house and it's the one activity where even Mabel picks up on the atmosphere, abandoning her perpetual cravings for attention, food and playtime in favour of curling up asleep under my studio desk. When it comes to using the press everything changes - backwards and forwards from the 'wet' inking area to the 'dry' paper and press workstation with Mabel and the old fella 'Pike' (my 11year old Lab collie cross) permanently under my feet in my tiny studio...
My work as a designer is never far from the finished prints and there is an illustrative quality to them with a strong influence on line and pattern as well as a smattering of humour... I love working in monochrome and pushing the boundaries of detail that can be achieved in the carving. Linocut can get a bad press (no pun intended) as a coarse unrefined technique in part due to the popularity of cheap tools that blunt easily and are hard to control with any precision- these are brilliant as an introduction to the process but I recommend to anyone serious about their art to invest in a set of quality carving tools - I use Pfeil, a Swiss made brand that allows exquisite detail - not quite as fine as woodcuts but damn near close enough. Fine detail is however exhausting on the eyes even the mini prints can take a days work to carve and proof on the press so my next top tip is buy yourself a magnifying headset!
Thank you for visiting my shop
