Recycled and Upcycled Gifts and Cards

| Coventry, England

Star Seller.

This seller sets a shining example for providing a great customer experience, with a history of 5-star reviews, on-time dispatch, and quick replies to any messages they received.

Announcement    We have reintroduced overseas posting on most items after temporarily suspending it last year due to pandemic and Brexit delays, but please be aware that their are postal delays in many countries so the post can be a little slower than normal at the moment. Allow plenty of time.

I hate waste and strive to give old things a new life and new purpose whenever practical. Most of the items here have had a previous life as something else. I also use a lot of leftover scraps, house clearance finds etc. Anything to save constantly adding to landfill.

About SumOfTheirStories

Sales 2,729
On Etsy since 2017

I've made things for as long as I can remember and come from a long line of creative people. i've been sharing my ideas and enthusiasm on my blog Sum of their Stories for a number of years and the time is now right to start selling the items I make too.
The ethos of Sum of their Stories is to respect and look after the planet in small everyday ways. Here at Sum of their Stories the majority of products are made from items that used to be something else. I love upcycling old clothes, linens etc into beautiful new items . Huge amounts of fast fashion items end up in landfill every year when maybe all they need is a little reimagining.
It's not going to change the world but a philosophy of reuse & recycle, one item at a time can't hurt. If we all do a little, just imagine the change that could take place. None of this is new, my nan was an upcycling queen, but in her day it was just called being thrifty.

The name Sum of their Stories is taken from a beautiful poem:

Russian Dolls

We carry our mothers inside us,
their voices, their habits surprise us,
slipping out suddenly, after we’re opened to life's pain.
When we’ve discovered that we are the sum of their stories,
that we must love their defeats as we do their victories.
Triumph and tragedy, mothers and daughters,
they beget each other like Russian dolls -
forever enclosing and being enclosed.

I love to make things because I was allowed to as a child. I was allowed to make a mess, be creative, have a go. I had wonderful women in my life who taught me skills and techniques. They unpicked my mistakes and showed me where I was going wrong. I am the Sum of their Stories.

All items sold are packaged in recycled materials. This means they will be wrapped in protective packaging, boxes, bubble wrap etc as necessary, all of which will have been used before. It doesn't look as fancy but it does reuse and recycled perfectly good packaging and saves it from landfill.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalised orders

I make a lot of custom cards to order for family, friends and from local craft fairs. If you need a card and what something made especially for them, maybe with a favourite hobby, fandom, interest etc features just send me a message and I can see what I can come up with for you.

P & P costs for second items

It can be really difficult to calculate p & p costs, especially for second items or parcels going to other countries. If I find that your parcel costs substantially less than estimated and charged when I get to the post office then I will always refund the overcharged amount

Estimated Delivery Times

It can be really difficult to specify delivery times. Unless stated otherwise all items are dispatched in 1 - 2 business days, then they are in the hands of the postal service. We've added a some arrival time estimates above based on previous experience, sometimes items will be much quicker, sometimes they will get stuck at customs and take a little longer. Best advice is to allow plenty of time.
