The Football Artist Printshop is run by husband & wife team Steve & Judith Gulbis.
Steve began drawing footballers aged 9. ‘My dad took me to see Middlesborough play at Ayresome Park and I was hooked instantly. Drawing footballers became an obsession as I tried to capture the colour, excitement and personalities of the game – and I’m still doing that today!’

As well as designing his own artwork, Steve has worked as a Professional Illustrator and Artist for over 40 years. He designed posters for ‘SHOOT!’, ‘SOCCERSTARS’ & ‘MATCH OF THE DAY’ magazines, and produced artwork for MANCHESTER UNITED FC, LIVERPOOL FC, TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR FC, UNIVERSAL MOVIES, DIADORA, & THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION. Also the football comic strip Grin The Net in THE SUN NEWSPAPER. His illustrations currently appear in ENGLAND INTERNATIONAL & FA CUP FINAL programmes.

Years of tagging along to matches up and down the country, and living in a house stacked with football books & magazines, finally persuaded Judith to join Steve in running the Football Artist Printshop. ‘Two heads are better than one, so Steve and I work as a creative team, developing new ideas and projects together.’

Judith designs the presentation boxes for our football postcard collections. She also applies her customary care and attention to running off the prints & cards, before wrapping, mailing, and updating customers with dispatch & delivery details.

ARTWORK AND PRINT PROCESS
Every print starts with a detailed hand drawn Pen/Ink/Brush/Pencil drawing on paper. (Our artwork and prints are not digitally manipulated photos)

Line drawings are scanned and imported into the iMac computer where flat colour separations are added on individual layers. (Similar to traditional silkscreen printing process)

Finished artwork is exported to our Epson 3880 Giclee printer, and using vibrant 9 colour Epson Ultra Chrome inks, is printed onto exhibition grade 300gsm Brilliant Museum archive quality paper, a beautiful textured matte finish paper.

Each print is meticulously hand checked and left to dry, before being wrapped in protective tissue and loosely rolled in a sturdy cardboard tube. A4 size (210mm x 297mm), 11.7 x 8.3 Inches, A5 (210 x 148mm), 8.3 x 5.8 Inches, or cards are posted in a flat cardboard package.
