Announcement    *Introducing Recreation Jewellery*

As well as my usual stock of unusual vintage and antique jewellery and collectables, TheMouseyPad are also now the home of ReCreation-Designs jewellery.

What is ReCreation-Designs?

As an antique dealer I am often horrified about the number of wonderfully designed and crafted items that are consigned to scrap because of damage, missing parts or simply the market demand for bullion. My mission is to save some of these exquisite artisan pieces and using them as inspiration, re-create a completely new and unique piece by combining old with new and elements made fro,m scrap. Because the elements are sold as scrap, they are usually a mix of jewellery, silver objects, discarded silver wire and sheet and simply pieces of tiny scrap which I can melt down / recycle to use in all sorts of ways.

Every piece is truly a one-off and is therefore completely unique to the wearer. I have four themed collections in production which are

Hot Planet - themed around nature, environment, biodiversity
Junk Yard - incorporating elements reminiscent of a junk yard
Totally Wired - made in the min from silver wire
Maths Class - geometric themed pieces with a difference.

I have been silver smithing since doing an evening class in 2017 and caught the bug. I’ve learnt since by trial and error, videos online and asking advice from my mentors at Kevan Scott Goldsmiths in Glasgow. I love the elation of finding a piece of scrap silver and broken jewellery which instantly gives me an idea and vision of something I would love to make. Because my jewellery isn’t made from pristine sheet and wire, I work differently from other jewellers who design upfront. In order for me to make something completely new and unique I need to create each piece from the elements I have in stock at that time so whilst I can theme collections I can’t replicate pieces into mass production.

Materials I use are mainly silver with precious or semi precious gem stones and acrylic* though I can pretty much use any material that captures my imagination.

Some stones, too beautiful to scrap can have minor flaws but care is taken to ensure these are practically invisible to the naked eye. Re-using elements can present some crafting issues so the non-visible elements can sometimes not be perfectly finished. Every effort is made to finish every item perfectly and the photos will always show the perfect and the non-perfect elements.

I mostly work in sterling silver with natural stones and coloured resin and my early items (Hot Planet) were often themed around nature and the environment.

I hope you enjoy my small effort to combine recycling, sustainability and distinct designs.

Reduce Re-Use Recycle with jewellery by ReCreation

*to ensure robust performance

Junkyard has a number of items in it which were inspired by random pieces of junk I found in my garage and storeroom, hence the name. I’m passionate about reduce, reuse and recycle by the need to recycle everything we use, a scrap yard is an excellent example of recycling long before domestic recycling was commonplace. Each bold statement piece has been individually crafted with unique elements which have come from my growing selection of broken and scrapped jewellery, harvested into individual components to be included in my designs.

I hope my collections inspire you to invest in a unique piece, and I can also accept commissions for specific occasions.

On Etsy since 2014

I have also inherited a love of antique jewellery and have been an avid collector most of my life. Now it is time to share!

Our family benefitted from a family auction business, established in 1890, and so our family has a vintage collection that is quite astonishing.Selling the excess pieces started my shop and I’ve been going now for 6 years on Etsy. I started making my own jewellery in 2016 and have a range called ReCreation which is made from scrap silver - and you are welcome to browse all my collections of unique and sustainable jewellery.

Frequently asked questions
Who are ReCreation-Designs?

ReCreation Designs are my own jewellery range which I make from scrap silver and other broken unwanted jewellery. TheMouseyPad will sell items from ReCreation Designsand the usual selection of vintage and antique jewellery and collectables that I’ve always sold.

Wholesale availability

Every item I sell is pretty unique so I only have one of each I’m afraid although I do work in themed collections which have similar design features. Some of these are easier to “replicate” than others but no two are ever the same.

Is every part of your jewellery vintage or used.

Whilst the main elements are formed from scrap, I order to ensure that the jewellery is hygienic and/or robust, I add new chains and critical load-bearing findings where necessary though this is minimal. I am getting more skilled at making my own findings as I gain experience!

What about sizing?

I do specialise in large statement pieces though some elements are idea; for smaller, finer pieces. I try to make any fittings like ring sizes, bracelets and bangles as standard as possible, but this can be sometimes dictated by the base piece. Please ask if you are unsure of the size.

Who is that modelling your jewellery

I’m proud to say I made everything in those pictures as the beautiful model is my daughter Lauren!
