I'm fascinated by old town and country houses - the 'doer uppers' - and this often influences my work. As a result I adore combining old floral wallpapers and peeling paint with rusty wire and nails, and reclaimed wood such as skirting or floor boards. Through my work i aim to spread joy by use of uplifting words and quotes, by creating mixed media scenes that evoke childhood memories, and by celebrating all that makes a house a home.

I hope you will enjoy the results of what I like to call 'The Pip House'!

About

The Pip House Story

Initially qualifying with an Art Foundation National Diploma, I went on to gain a 2:1 Fashion BA(Hons) from Derby University. In 2004 I took a leap and started working with wood, running a social enterprise for people recovering from mental illness. This involved a variety of wonderfully creative workshops - wood, ceramics and textiles.

10 years later, redundancy gave me the opportunity to choose self-employment. I now work from home in Warwickshire, in the UK. I love the character of old derelict houses - the 'doer uppers' - and this often influences my work. As a result I adore combining old floral wallpapers and peeling paint with rusty wire and nails, and reclaimed wood such as skirting or floor boards. I'm interested in the stories these old houses would tell if they could!

My work often includes hand stamped uplifting words as, visually, I like the look of text as part of the artwork. Also I hope to bring a smile, and perhaps prompt a memory, and warmth of feeling for the viewer.

The original inspiration for my work dates back to my student days when I decided to use a run-down double fronted terrace house as the backdrop for my final collection photo shoot. The house had been bought by a friend who rented out property to fellow students. I remember being mesmerised by the original 1930s floral wallpaper in one room, and equally, the decay of crumbling bare walls in another. As a farewell gift my friend saved me a chunk of wooden shelving which had been lined with floral wallpaper. Possibly my favourite present ever, and the reason why you may well see chunks of wood lined with floral papers in my work!!

I hope you enjoy the results of what I like to call 'The Pip House'!

Pip x
