Announcement    NEWS: In light of the upcoming Royal Mail Strikes, I will now be using EVRI. My processing time remains 1 working day.

Welcome to The Silk Studio! I use nature to hand-dye silk ribbons here in my Somerset atelier.

All my ribbons are hand dyed in small batches, by me.

I don't do mass produced, synthetic dying. I believe in harnessing nature and creating something which is bespoke and completely one off.

The dyes I use are cultivated by using natural dye matter which has typically been:

- foraged from nature;
- recycled from leftover food-waste straight from mine or my neighbours kitchen;
- grown in my garden;
- or purchased from my local farmers market/small businesses.

Occasionally, I will purchase natural dye extracts to help me to achieve a specific shade when I am unable to access the plant locally. I pride myself on sourcing from ethical and reputable companies.

I'm so proud of the business I've built, which initially started as a 'side hustle' but is now my living. Your support as a customer means the world to me, so thank you for your interest in my shop.

If you can't find what you're looking for within my shop listings, please do get in touch as I love working on bespoke commissions - whether that's creating a specific shade to match your wedding stationery or producing a colour in a specific size.

I also love working on large orders so please get in touch to discuss pricing as I may be able to offer a discretionary discount when you buy in bulk

Naturally hand dyed silks for weddings and events

Taking inspiration from nature, I use my artistry to lovingly hand craft silk ribbons to adorn bouquets, cakes, stationery and accessories for use in weddings, hand fasting ceremonies and special occasions.

I love to embrace all that nature has to offer, using it consciously and sustainably to yield an array of colours when it comes to the hand dying of my silks.

When the pandemic struck, this brought about many changes for me as it did for many, taking the time to reconnect with the natural world around me. Like many, I found myself replacing my fast-paced lifestyle for country walks, gardening, home cooked dinners and of course, natural dying! It didn't take long for me to fall in love with the slow living movement.

I felt that simply adding silks to my existing business (which at the time was focused around wedding and event design) wouldn't truly harness the essence of my work and my approach. It was time to bring my business up to speed, and there The Silk Studio was born.

Frequently asked questions
Do you accept returns

Ribbons that are not as described or are faulty can be returned for a full refund however due to the made to order nature of the ribbons, returns for items which are not faulty and are as described, cannot be returned for a refund. They can however be exchanged. Please make note of the ‘perfectly imperfect’ nature of the ribbons and order a sample if you are looking to check the colour before purchasing a full spool.

Wholesale availability

I love to work on large orders and may be able to offer a discretionary discount depending on the quantities involved and my capacity at the time of ordering.

Please note that due to the nature of dying with natural matter, it is impossible to guarantee a complete colour match especially when working with large quantities which require more than one dye bath. Please therefore expect slight variations between batches.

How quickly can I get my order?

I pride myself on my exceptionally quick dispatch times. All orders are dispatched on the next working day. Orders made on a Friday will be dispatched on a Monday. Please take into account any bank holidays which may cause delays.

There is the option to upgrade the delivery method at the checkout including the option for guaranteed next day delivery using the Royal Mail. NOTE: As of 3rd October 2022, I will be trialling EVRI courier service (to avoid any disruption as a result of the Royal Mail strikes). I will be offering the EVRI next day delivery service as an upgraded option at the checkout.

How much ribbon do I need?

My spools are typically 1.8m in length which is plenty long enough for a trailing tail if being used to tie around your wedding bouquet.

All lengths are continuous with no seams.

For cakes, one 1.8m spool is usually long enough to create a bow depending on the size of the cake.

I recommend 2” widths for bouquets and 1” widths for stationery and hand fasting usage. Cakes look great with both 2” and 3” widths.

If you require an alternative length, then please get in touch.

How are your ribbons presented?

My ribbons are ironed and are neatly rolled onto a dowel to prevent creasing.

I can’t find what I’m looking for. Do you have extra stock not listed / do you take custom requests?

Yes! It’s always worth checking with me so please leave me a message and I’ll get back to you as quickly as I can. I work as quickly as I can to replenish stock however if you are looking for higher quantities than those showing as available, I typically make these orders a priority when it comes to which ribbons I restock first.
