Welcome to my little creative outlet TheUrbanPurl! The place to find lovingly hand dyed yarns with an urban edge. All yarn is dyed in small batches, and great care is taken to produce a skein I would be happy to receive myself, and its often very hard to let some of these go ;)

Fibre crafts and Knitting has been my passion for over 10 years, kettle dyeing yarn is my latest venture into the yarny world. I decided to share this passion and sell my hand dyed yarns in April 2017, and so far I'm loving it.

Hand-dyeing is a truly creative process producing variations in colour saturation and distribution making each skein unique. Colour is applied in layers on to the skeins and most are hand dyed in very small batches or even individually, giving each skein its own unique identity, even within the same dye batch. To achieve a more homogenous effect when creating larger projects please alternate the skeins when knitting

About

Urban Purl yarns are dyed with professional acid dyes that are light and colour fast, on high quality yarns bases and fibres, I ONLY use merino wool sourced from mulesing-free farms in South America. The Blue-faced Leicester wool in my shop is British bred, sourced and processed in Britain by my Supplier "to the highest environmental standards possible."

Inspiration comes from everywhere and anywhere, visual and aural. From the snippets of a conversation overheard on the train, to the lyrics of a favourite song on the radio, a beautiful painting or a walk along the canal.

I apply layers of colour, with variations in depth of shade and saturation within the same skein - much like the approach to canvas painting. Some of my colourways visit the dye bath twice or even 3 times to achieve the look or shade I want. I only sell skeins that I would be happy to buy myself - so sometimes if something isn't quite right it will need more love, care and attention and therefore, sometimes takes a little longer to reach you if its a custom order.

Many of the colours used are unique, mixed and blended to achieve the desired shades and therefore may not be consistent across different dye lots - please bear this is mind if you are ordering for a large project, however, even within the same dye lot or even the same dye pot! skeins may appear slightly different, as this is dependant on the distribution of the dye

The pictures used in the listings are not stock colour way photos - but pics taken of that dye batch, so you will receive what's depicted in the photo

PLEASE NOTE: I dispatch items mainly on Mondays and Thursdays, if your item is urgently needed please let me know in the "note to seller" box at check-out - thanks

I'm an Urban girl, born and bred in London, so my influences are a mix of metropolitan, ethnopolitan, hi-fashion and anti-fashion. Don't get me wrong though I love nature and all that she gives us, as she is the greatest artist.
