Announcement   Welcome to The Whispering Wild... I'll let you in on a secret, don't tell anyone but if you wanted to find the real place of wild you would have to start at a house with a red door, follow the stream past the old mill, treck through the blustery open moorland, sneak through the lush wooded coombes, take the hidden turning at the signpost and finally pass under the watchful keepers gaze. Thankfully though you can click the kettle on, put your feet up and admire the creations inspired by the Whispering Wild in the comfort of your own home.

I love creating, always have, always will. It brings me so much joy to sit down with just wool and needle knowing that these two basic ingredients can create anything your imagination can stretch to. I hope by seeing some of my pieces you too can experience that joy.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, you can also follow me via my facebook page www.facebook.com/TheWhisperingWild

Oh and if you feel like making the adventure to the Wild , let me know, I'll be waiting under the willow with tea and cake :) x

About

A needle sculptor creating creatures with a tell to tale and a song in their heart.

Once upon a time there was a girl who loved nature. Always out walking and collecting natures gifts which she would take home to store in secret places. Her mother would moan at sitting on the shell of a robin egg and her father would grumble at the lichen in his tobacco tin but still she searched and still she foraged. Knowing one day it would need her.

Years passed and the little girl got bigger. Still walking, still collecting, still amazed by nature. However she was told by important people that she needed to stop daydreaming and find her way in life. Try as she might to join the crowds she never felt fulfilled her heart always beckoned her back to the wild places. The only time she felt truly happy was when she was silently watching the creatures that others didn’t seem to notice. She yearned to recreate these magical sights. She tried painting but her hand didn’t seem to know her vision, She tried singing but her voice was too small to be heard.

Then one stormy winter night when the fire was crackling and the wind was howling she found an old sewing box hidden amongst the cobwebs of time. Inside there were all kinds of ribbon and buttons. Right at the bottom amongst a few forgotten sequins and a broken brooch back she noticed a peculiar looking needle. It was bent at the top with notches cut into the metal. With it was a tatty piece of paper it simply said ‘To shape wool, use at your peril, deadly sharp!’

She bounded away searching frantically for the box marked ‘meadow collection’ In it she found her assortment of wools tenderly plucked from the barbed fences of where she called home as a child. Under the dull light of that stormy night it didn’t take her long to create her first creature, a tiny white bunny.

Seasons came and passed and her knowledge and love of her needle and wool grew. She finally found the light that makes her heart sing. I’m told if you venture to the south of our land you may find her sat amongst the earth. Still foraging…still felting.

Hello and welcome to The Whispering Wild, a secret place where the spirals of lush ferns meet the weeping branches of willows. I spend my time here, foraging and felting. I source all my own local wools and sometimes dye them using plants I find in the landscape around me. I then simply sit with wool and needle to create an everlasting impression of nature.
