About

Naturally Dyed Textiles by Justine Aldersey-Williams

The Wild Dyery specialise in natural colour and dye fabric using only sustainable, environmentally friendly plant dyes. All cloth was coloured this way prior to the Industrial Revolution. In the last 150 years, millennia of dye-craft heritage and wisdom have been all but lost in favour of synthetic, environmentally polluting textile production methods. We think it's time for a renaissance!

Cloth coloured with plant dyes absorbs not only beautiful colour but also healing properties. Our ancestors understood this important connection between humans and nature and The Wild Dyery hopes to play it's part in reviving that tradition. There is great therapeutic pleasure in slowly creating textiles with your own hands and whether you're purchasing ready-made or attending one of our workshops to dye something yourself, the cloth tells a more ethical, sustainable story and has a provenance which surely feels better to wear.

Our current obsession is indigo - 'mystic blue' a colour corresponding to the 6th chakra in yoga - the inner eye. It's a naturally calming colour, used by our ancestors to enhance intuition and much valued for its colour-fastness and protective antiseptic properties. There's SO much more to say about that and we will as we weave together new retreats, workshops and products to delight our customers.

Welcome to The Wild Dyery! We are a eco-conscious textile design company founded by Justine Aldersey-Williams. We specialise in botanical (plant-derived rather than synthetic) fabric dyeing. All our items are hand-dyed and patterned using intricate 'shibori' (similar to tie-dye) techniques here in England, U.K.

  • Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Returns and exchanges
All items purchased from The Wild Dyery are unique. Design styles are shown in the images, for example, 'arashi' is a pole wrapped design, 'itajime' is a folded and clamped design. However, as each item is individually dyed (sometimes to order) patterns will be similar but different. No two designs can ever be replicated by hand. This means you will own a one-off. We stay as true to the image representing your item as possible by using the same shibori (binding, folding, tying) techniques. Therefore we do not accept returns due to the pattern design.

Many of our products are pre-made then hand-dyed. We are happy to refund a returned item if it has a physical fault (i.e. not pattern) although we strongly recommend you purchase additional postal insurance as we do not accept liability for damage occurring after dispatch.

If you make a mistake while ordering, please contact The Wild Dyery via info[at]TheWildDyery.com to arrange an exchange or store credit. Postage fees are at the buyers expense. Items returned for exchange must be received in original condition within 14 days of receipt of purchase, and must include proof of purchase.
Payment
The Wild Dyery only accept payment via Paypal, instant bank transfer or Etsy checkout.
Shipping
All items are posted/shipped by Royal Mail from the U.K. and rates are shown in GBP.

If you require tracked postage, insurance or a recorded delivery (recommended), please contact info [at] TheWildDyery.com for a quote.

If delivering internationally, you may be liable for customs charges prior to delivery. Please check this before purchasing.

Delivery charges may change without notice.
