TheWoollyFerret's Shop Announcement

Welcome to The Woolly Ferret.
All my yarns are hand dyed on the beautiful island of Tiree and dried in the famous Tiree sunshine and wind.

The Isle of Tiree is the most westerly island of the Inner Hebrides. It is relatively small - about twelve miles long and three miles wide - and very flat. Although the island is famous for its fertility it has been described variously as 'a raised beach' and 'the land below the waves'.

The island has a mild climate with some of the highest levels of sunshine recorded anywhere in the British Isles. This earns it another nickname, "the Hawaii of the North". It benefits from the moderating influence of the Gulf Stream ensuring that frost is rare and evenings in mid-summer are warm and balmy.

During the summer it's visited by people from around the world. People tracing their ancestry; water sport enthusiasts; people looking to escape from the rat race and those who just want a quiet escape. The locals are friendly and always willing to help a lost visitor or even fellow islander. Scottish Gaelic is as common as English and the placenames are written in Gaelic.

The island is completely surrounded by sea and dependant on daily planes and ferries for its supplies and mail; this makes for quite the relaxed community as there's no hurrying a ferry!
