About ThreadFriends
How it all began...
Back in 2002 I graduated from (what was then) Norwich School of Art and Design with a BA Hons degree in textiles. I met this guy, we fell in love... he lived in London so I needed to save up enough money to move to the big smoke!
My creativity slumped 😳 ....but a few years on and a few jobs later I moved to London to live with my now husband and eventually worked as a visual merchandiser for a high street fashion brand. After having my first daughter (now 7) I decided the loooong commute and working hours would be too much.. when Flo was 10mths old I got a part time job, which was fine but when I actually weighed up ⏰💰👶 I decided to take some time to be at home with Flo...I started getting back into my sewing, initially it was all for friends and family, making cushions, bunting, little weird stuffed animal type things 🤔
As time went on, I experimented more with my free motion embroidery technique (most of which is self taught) and started to wonder if maybe my hobby could actually be a thing, maybe I could set up a small business doing something I love... so fast forward to now and although it’s been a little stop starty with another baby (now 4!) coming along I’m still going and still loving it 🙌🏻 I’m grateful every day to all the people who have supported me along the way. It’s not always easy but it’s definitely worth it.
I love free motion embroidery,I love the fluidity it gives my work. I am able to draw with the thread, creating pictures, landscapes and sometimes the odd portrait.
I also use techniques such as appliqué, watercolour pencils and inks within my work, it is always evolving..
