The wonderful world of Tinker...

I started Tinker officially in 2016. My original aim was to design and make my own products and revive old pieces of furniture in need of an overhaul, but over the first year my focus shifted. I still make and re-work a few things but now spend more time rescuing smaller vintage bits and bobs that deserve a new home. I'm quite selective with my stock but am a magnet for boxes and brown things - old wood, tarnished metal and rust. My philosophy is that if I wouldn't give something house space, I won't sell it here.
When I'm not tinkering with my shop, I'm tinkering about with other stuff. I like a project and have a bit of a thing for chairs.

Frequently asked questions
What delivery service do you use and can you reduce postage costs?

Shipping is never free. Some shops hide shipping costs in the item price. I don't, as it distorts the value of items and isn't fair to people who might want to buy more than one item from me.

Items I sell are old and/or not replaceable, so I do my best to ensure they reach their new owners in the same condition as described in the listing.

UK: I use Royal Mail's 'Signed For' service for small items and Collect+/Yodel or ParcelForce for large items.

Elsewhere: I am currently only shipping within the UK.

Do you combine postage costs?

Where possible, yes.

The simplest way to buy multiple items is to pay in full for the items you require and I will refund you the P&P overages once the items are packed and weighed.

Alternatively you can contact me for a new postage cost and then either do as suggested above or request a 'Reserved' listing. The downside of this second option is that it may take longer for me to set up the new listing and I can't guarantee no-one will buy the items in the meantime.

What if my item gets damaged in the post?

I pack my items to survive but cannot guarantee the post truck won't run them over.

If your package arrives damaged, please take photos of it before you open it. If the item is damaged, take photos of the broken item and packaging and contact me immediately.

These photos are needed to provide legal evidence of a damaged item. Without them, I cannot make a claim from the delivery service and cannot make a refund to you.

Which countries do you ship to?

I am currently only shipping within the UK.

Are you an antiques expert?

No. I do sell some things which are very old and therefore considered antique but I do not have provenance for these items.

I sometimes seek advice from experts who give me their verbal opinion or ask the people I buy from if they know anything about the item they're selling. Anything I add to my descriptions comes from this or from what I have managed to research and can only be considered as hearsay.

I sell things purely because I like them, regardless of anything else.

Do you do gift wrapping?

I can gift wrap most things, with the exception of furniture and large items.

I have a selection of vintage and modern style wrapping papers. Please let me know what sort of gift it is (e.g. Christmas, Birthday...) so I can pick the most appropriate paper.
