Bringing warmth and colour into your home : My story

Where I started:
Town Hill is a beautiful spot in Hardy’s Wessex just near to Dorchester in Dorset. I lived there for 15 years in a stunning windswept landscape and started and named my business there – Townhill Studio.
What I care about:
But living remotely I had to drive absolutely everywhere and with environmental concerns being of great importance to me I moved the business to the small abbey town of Sherborne – everything within walking or cycling distance and a railway station. But the name will always stay to remind me of that beautiful place and where it all started.
Caring for our environment means that I use organic cotton in the making of my shades as I am aware of the great damage caused by the general cotton industry to the landscape and its workers.
How I create my product:
The creating of the lamps and lampshades has evolved quite naturally from my original watercolours of plants, birds and landscape, through my fine shibori hangings to the moment I realised that light shining through my fabrics is the perfect way of seeing and fully appreciating my designs and specially created colours.
The environment of Town Hill and now the peaceful rural landscape around Sherborne support me in my work and influence my designs.
My professional training and years in practice as an interior designer inform my design skills and enables me to assist you in creating great colour choices for lamps and lampshades to enhance your home.

I have always loved creating and making, did design and textiles back in school but have come back to it many years later. I had a long career as an interior designer loving the textiles I used and now I am back working with fabric and colour.
