About

Handmade, natural, unique!

I'm Jenny. I live in Bubugo village on the banks of the Nile. Our community is very rural, and depends on subsistence agriculture. The women in our village were working to make crafts in their women's groups, but with no access to market. They approached me for ideas, and we have worked to develop a number of products that incorporate their creativity whilst being targeted to a U.K. market. I buy the products from the ladies at a set, fair price. I then take the products to market and sell them on, at an increased amount- a proportion of the profit of which is re-invested into projects run by Bubugo Conservation Trust based in the community, such as our village library offering free women's literacy classes, our beekeeping and tree planting project (our current fundraising push), and emergency medical bills for vulnerable families. Selling these products in this way is how we manage to sustain our community activities. Check out www.bubugoconservation.org for more information!

I work with the ladies in product design, buy the items for them and sell them at market. I then reinvest the profit into our community based projects, further benefiting the ladies and others in our community.
