The Story of the Vintage Fashion Library

I started selling online in 1999. I started out on eBay - before you could post pictures, it was text only! My first selling adventures were homeschool books, and somehow when they introduced the store format, I segued into sewing patterns. I've sold over 5000 patterns on eBay, then moved to my own site for several years, then to Etsy, where I've happily been selling for some time.

People often ask how I got into selling sewing patterns, but I really can't remember the specifics. I can see the first pattern I listed in my head. It was a Simplicity 70s jumper dress. I know that I fell in love with the illustrations, and because of my love of vintage fashion, once I started selling, I didn't stop. I've sold over 10,000 patterns all over the world, including Iceland, Phillipines, Japan, Egypt, Brazil, and many other countries. I love sending my patterns off to their new homes.

My grandmother worked for Pictorial Review in the mid 20s, and I've always loved old movies, Victorian / Edwardian eras, the 1950s, and old things in general. My house is a potpourri of antiques and vintage, including lots of sewing patterns -- some of which are a permanent fixture in my office, just for inspiration. People ask why I like "that old stuff," but I love the days when fashion was in the details, and people used their creativity to make their own clothes.

I live outside of Indianapolis, in a small town, with my husband and dogs. I love to read about fashion history, paint, and spend time with my family, including my two grandgirls. I have lymphoma and rheumatoid arthritis, so some days are a challenge, but being self employed is a goal that I've finally fulfilled, after 40 years as a nurse.

I search everywhere for beautiful patterns to bring to you, so that you can rock your vintage look and make it your own. I hope you find inspiration in my shop!

Frequently asked questions
Do you ship internationally?

Yes! We ship worldwide. Please email us if you have questions about postage.

Do you offer refunds?

We do not offer refunds.

Can you mark an international package as a gift, or alter the value of the contents?

No. This is illegal. Please don't ask. We can't risk our business for a lie.

Custom and personalized orders

Yes. If combined shipping does not appear in your cart, please contact us. We don't like it when the calculator overcharges!

Custom and personalized orders

Our reproduction patterns have been carefully traced onto a stock paper, which is heavier than the original tissue paper. It is durable and easy to use, and all of the pattern's original markings are there. Original instructions are also included, but keep in mind that the older the pattern, the more sparce the instructions were. Repro patterns are also heavier than the original, so shipping is a bit higher. Please email us if you have questions.

Are you a smoke free, pet free business?

We are smoke free. We do have dogs, but they do not come in contact with our stock. That being said, vintage items have had a previous life, and sometimes odors can be emitted after something is combined in an envelope, and dog allergens may be present even though our pets aren't near the stock. We've never had a complaint in over 20 years of business, however, so hopefully there are no issues.

Aren't you violating copyrights?

All of our e-books and reproduction patterns have been carefully researched to ensure that no copyright violation has taken place. Please do not buy from sellers who violate copyrights -- and if a pattern is post-1961, it's most likely still in copyright! We strive very hard to do honest business and protect the original owner's intellectual property.

I live in rain forest/desert/mountains/tropics/across the world from you. How will you protect my purchase?

Patterns are packaged first in an archival plastic envelope, to protect the paper product from rain and moisture. Then we add a cardboard backing board, to keep the parcel from bending. We then place it into a large mailing envelope and tape it shut, to keep the edges from being caught in a machine at the post office.

Some larger packages, especially books, will be mailed in a Tyvek envelope.

Though we rarely have had any packages arrived damaged, we have seen a couple over the years that arrived (or not) damaged, or with tire tracks on them. In these cases, the pattern was fine! We can't take responsibility for the crazy things the post office may do to your package, but please be assured that this is a very rare occurrence.
