British watches: Built in Britain by W. T. Author. Limited edition timepieces with Swiss made & automatic movements with handmade leather straps.

At 13:00 Friday 13th September 2013 we launched an independent watch brand, the likes of which had never been seen before; the result of countless meetings at local coffee houses under Birmingham’s prestigious School of Horology. Discussing our love of fine watches, it soon dawned on us exactly how our friendship and passion for design could be directed into manufacturing a collection of our very own that charts the history of watches.

Dedicated to the memory of the patient teacher Wynn Phillips and the loving grandfather Thomas Hall, both have their initials etched into the very fabric of time, forever.

It is clear to everyone that the market is overcrowded by overpriced lookalikes, with very little or no ambition placed into genuinely introducing something new. Today’s watch industry completely lacks personality and so we decided to bring a certain romance back to the iconic accessory. We encompass each limited edition product with a unique character that is totally individual to the brand. This vision will always be carried forward into every product as we continue on this thirteen year journey into the history of watches.

From the start we wanted watches that remain honest and have personality. The ‘thirteen year plan’ extends from this philosophy and it soon dawned on us how special we could make this brand. By working towards a 2013 release we are now building upon a history of watches that will only become clear to our audience as we progress.

For our debut product we looked to the humble beginnings of gent’s watches that came with the turn of the 20th century, concentrating on the pioneering ideas of that era (the transformation from pocket watch to wristwatch, the shoulders brazed onto the case and typography applied to the indices and packaging). And we will continue this mentality with every year going forward as we design for the next decade, and so on. Jumping to 2025, we will have thirteen watches each summarising thirteen decades of design in the history of watches.

We give every part of this project room to breathe and develop organically. Each component has had the opportunity to evolve allowing us to really get under the skin of the design and pinpoint the aspects that we want to use in order to sum up the decade. We will be pushing forwards to celebrate style innovations and technological breakthroughs meaning everything will be considered along the way with no stone left unturned. As far as the future designs are concerned we are happy with the framework and we certainly have the ideas in place.

Our workshop is based in the Shropshire countryside where we receive each tailor-made component from every corner of the globe (from USA to South America, The Far East to Switzerland and of course, Great Britain). We assemble each product and fit precision movements, tested above and beyond the usual quality standards. We make and fit each strap from beautiful Buffalo hides onto the watch, where it will sit in the packaging with the signed book and limited edition screen print.
We want as much control of the product as possible and this will only grow as we continue to progress. We want to ensure quality, but our primary objective is really just to be us. We feel we have something with that human touch that other watch brands at this level just do not have.

Additional policies and FAQs
Your W. T. AUTHOR watch is guaranteed against any defects in material or workmanship that may occur under normal use for a period of 24 months from the date of purchase.

Under no circumstances will W. T. AUTHOR be liable for any incidental or consequential damages.

The Warranty DOES NOT COVER,damage or breakage caused from accident, maltreatment or mishandling;

Watch Care Instructions:

The battery should be replaced about every 24 months. Battery replacement requires the use of specialist tools, and should be carried out by an approved stockists or specialist repairer.
IMPORTANT- do not try to change the battery yourself as this invalidates your warranty.
Handling. Your watch will not withstand extreme shocks or vibration. It is sensible to remove your watch before commencing rough work or situation where the watch could be damaged.
Bracelet Watches. Take care to avoid bending the bracelet beyond the normal curvature of the wrist. It is recommended the watch be kept in the presentation box when not in use. Avoid placing the watch under heavy objects or loose in a handbag.

Water Resistance. 10ATM – The watch is designed to withstand swimming, yachting, taking a shower, shallow diving.

General Instructions:

Do not operate buttons or the crown while the watch is in contact with water. Remember diving into a swimming pool can very briefly and significantly increase pressure on your timepiece. It may increase it to beyond limits it has been designed to withstand.

Pressure in ATM’s is a test pressure and should not be considered as actual diving depth as movement in the water tends to increase the pressure bearing at a given depth.

If your watch has been used in salt water it should be rinsed off in fresh water and carefully dried.

Wide variance of the temperature can affect, temporarily, the time-keeping accuracy of your watch.

Leather straps are not recommended for use in water. To avoid irreversible damage allow watch to dry at room temperature, and not on an exposed heated surface, as this could cause them to discolour, harden or mark if dried too quickly.

Disposal of Electric and Electronic Equipment

The consumer has a significant role to play in reducing the impact of waste electrical and electronic equipment, batteries and accumulators on the environment, through re-using or recycling such articles.

Some batteries and accumulators and some of the components used in electrical and electronic equipment may contain hazardous substances that can damage the environment and present a risk to human health if not properly disposed of.

The crossed out wheelie-bin symbol on this product is to remind you that waste electrical and electronic products, batteries and accumulators should not be disposed of with household waste.

If you are unable to re-use or recycle your article it should be disposed of at a civic amenity site/local authority recycling facilities.
