Whims into Whimsarium

Kim Edith is a textile artist based in Portsmouth. She studied Illustration at Kingston University before becoming a textiles teacher. She combines the two disciplines to create retro inspired fabric artworks and playful images of pop culture.
Whilst studying illustration she specialised in creating whimsical collages from sketches and paper ephemera and she brings the same techniques to textiles, layering fabrics, stitch and embellishments to create mixed-media portraits, jewellery and fabric books. Fascinated by the possibilities of fabric transfer paper, she uses it to merge paper and fabric, adding hand drawn details, found images and photographs of original works.
A lover of bright colours and bold prints, Kim draws inspiration from 1960s and 70s children’s books, psychedelic music posters and vintage textiles.
