Often surreal, sometimes kitsch and always quirky, the original, witty and whimsical designs give a much sought after contemporary twist to the classic decorative plate.

By using a variety of images juxtaposed with the original designs, the charming plates are designed to work individually, in pairs or sets of four - but different styles look stunning when grouped together on a wall.

Some are matched, others are mismatched adding to the charm of this upcycled decor.

And every piece is unique, defining this collectable, decorative range . . .

About

Quirky makeovers for vintage plates - and now, bespoke, fine bone china!

THE UPCYCLED VINTAGE RANGE

I have always wanted to do something creative but could never find anything that really inspired me - or that I could do to a standard that I was happy with.
I have enjoyed decoupage in the past but it wasn't until I started upcycling vintage plates in 2014 that I felt I had really found something I felt passionate about. . .

I discovered the fabulous impact of ceramic decals for upcycling when I was searching for inspiration to do something with a pile of rather wonderful vintage plates.
I love vintage 'one offs' and have a particular passion for wandering around boot sales, junk and charity shop.

Discovering the hidden, dusty individual plates that few people wanted became addictive and I gradually found myself with a collection of gorgeous plates crying out for attention.

Once I knew what I could do with them, I realised how rewarding I found the whole process - planning the design to suit the plate, sourcing the images, playing around with the images on the computer and then creating the ceramic decal transfers. I soon found myself lying awake at night thinking about the design for my next plate and realised that I was feeling more passionate and driven by the experience than I had done by anything for a long time!

I gradually built up a display of the plates on a wall at home - bowled over by the response, and being asked for custom orders, I realised that maybe I had actually found something creative that I could do.

All my plates are china, made and sourced in England and upcycled into a decorative piece by me at my home in Highgate. And it is definitely not a case of 'any old plate will do' - I have four strict criteria for buying them:
1. first and foremost that I love the plate(s)
2. they are of English vintage origin
3. there may be blemishes, fading or minor crazing (all/any of which I think add to the vintage charm of the plate and contribute to the overall design) - but no chips allowed unless used as part of the design.
4. they have a design that I can envisage working well with a particular image or set of images

Each piece is unique: the uniqueness is created by the combination of design and plate style - so the designs can be repeated but not the plate. Given this, if you see a design that you like but the item has been sold or nothing featuring that design is listed, let me know and we can discuss the option of making you a plate to order.

I frequently go to exhibitions, wander the streets of London (and beyond!), attend courses, always thinking about designs for my 'next plate' - watch this space!

NEW, BESPOKE, FINE BONE CHINA RANGE

People often ask me whether they can use the upcycled vintage plates to eat off.
Although the decals are heat sealed, I have always been nervous about the impact of repeated washing.
But more importantly, I love the impact of the plates on the wall and so decided to focus on their decorative role.
But of course it made me think about creating a bespoke range of china that not only looks fantastic, but is fully functional too.
I deliberated for ages, shared some concepts and then a dear friend of mine asked if she could order some - and that was the impetus I needed to get going.
It was hard to select one of my designs - I wanted to use them all - but I decided to launch this first fine bone white china range with 'Catch of the Day'.
The four sets of bread and dinner plates tell a 'story' of an unsuccessful fly fisherman.
The bread plate remains the same but there are four different dinner plates - 'fish', 'boot, 'cup' and 'handbag'.
Part of the fun was finding a suitable pottery in Stoke, who could work with me, do things by hand and keep everything in house.
It took a few visits but finally I came across Heraldic Pottery who have been fantastic throughout this very special journey.
Yesterday we went to pick up the plates and saw the screen printing process as well as meeting Dawn who was hand applying the decals to a set of my plates.
It is quite some process but I think all the more special for it - hope you will agree!

WHY ALIJOE?

The name combines the nickname of my older son, (Alex) and the second name of my younger son (Ollie Joe) and was conceived on a country walk one Christmas many years ago. The boys were planning to set up a local Sunday delivery service for fresh croissants and bread and Alijoes was going to be the brand name. Needless to say, Sunday morning lie ins and social lives took precedence over 6.00 am baking - but the name lives on and is now proudly fronting my very first shop. . .

Returns and exchanges
DAMAGED GOODS:
Due to the china being fragile, I take the greatest care when packaging the plates to ensure that they arrive at their destination in one piece.
However, in the unlikely event that any plate arrives damaged, please just send me a photo and I will either provide a refund or replace the item free of charge - whichever you prefer (NB: if you prefer to have another item in exchange, please note that due to the unique nature of each piece, I will be able to repeat the design but not the exact plate so I will liaise with you on the plate options)

LOSSES:
Although the Royal Mail provides likely delivery times, as ever, there is no guarantee on this and unfortunately, out of my control. Please allow 2 weeks to elapse and then if in the unlikely event it hasn't arrived, please let me know and I will of course follow it up.

REFUNDS:
I obviously hope that you love the item when you receive it but if for any reason you would like to return it, please just follow these steps:

*let me know within 7 days of receipt that you wish to return it - if you can, it would be useful to know why for my own research and understanding!
*repack it carefully and post it back to me
*let me know when you have sent it and by which postal method so that I know when to expect it
*please obtain proof of posting so that we have some opportunity to follow it up in the unlikely event that it doesn't arrive back
Payment
My preferred method of payment is Paypal (NB: you do not need a Paypal account to make a credit card payment via Paypal.)
I also accept Credit Cards and Etsy gift cards.
Shipping
******MY SHIPPING QUOTES EXPLAINED*******

I take particular pride and care in packing the items so that they arrive in the condition they leave me and try to use recyclable materials where possible.

In order to try to keep costs down without compromising the fate of the parcel, I am using services provided by Royal Mail as I detail below.

UK
All parcels will be sent by Royal mail Standard 2nd class service, at no cost, which should take 2-3 working days.
However, there is the option to upgrade to a signed for service with the price given with each listing.

INTERNATIONAL
The prices quoted are for Royal Mail International Standard service which should mean that parcels take 3-5 working days for Europe and 5-7 working days worldwide.
However, please be aware that on rare occasions, delivery can take up to 21 working days.

I will always obtain proof of posting but if you prefer to have the parcel sent using the tracked and signed for service, please tick the upgrade option for shipping costs.

Please be aware that for International delivery, postal rates vary considerably according to weight. This means that there can be considerable discrepancy between the postal charge for one plate compared with that for another. (eg: some of my smaller, fine bone china plates are particularly light whilst another single plate can weigh up to 200 g more). I have tried to be as accurate as possible with my charges but occasionally I can miss the mark - thankfully, this is more likely to be my loss but I will always refund the excess.
Obviously if you have any questions about the postal charges please don't hesitate to get in touch.

**INTERNATIONAL DELIVERIES AND CUSTOMS **
Customers outside of the United Kingdom are responsible for any import duties, taxes or any other fees associated with their respective countries.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Many thanks!
Additional policies and FAQs
CUSTOM ORDERS:

The images can be repeated but not the china – if there is any particular image ot combination of images that you have seen and like but is no longer featured on any items for sale, please get in touch and we can discuss plate options to combine it with.

QUALITY:

I only sell items that I would be delighted to have myself but vintage china, due to its age may have slight imperfections or manufacturing faults, like crazing or rough edges or wearing to the pattern or gilding, which I think only adds to the charm!
If any imperfections are more significant I will draw attention to it in the description.

Being limited to five photos it is not always possible to show every detail, but I am always happy to provide extra photographs on request.

CARE:

The plates are really for decorative purposes only - although they can be gently rinsed, in order to preserve the fragile designs, please do not soak, scrub or place them in a microwave or dishwasher.
