About artisancornwall

Inspired by Cornwall's magnetism......

When I first moved to this far-flung most westerly part of Cornwall, surrounded by the beautiful but chaotic Celtic sea on three sides, my main focus was photography. There was so much to capture – the ever shifting colours of the sea from deepest blue to sparkling aqua marine, the sweeping granite cliffs and amazing rock formations, the purple heather and yellow gorse sprinkled moors, the tiny fishing coves with their brave little boats….the opportunities were endless.

It was around this time that I started to get interested in enamelling and it struck me that all the things I love about Cornwall, and which influence my photography, were just as inspirational when it comes to my jewellery. So I experimented with the colours of the region, and let my imagination run riot.

I love the fact that no two pairs of my earrings are the same – they are each as unique as the people who choose to wear them. The originality, the never quite knowing what you’re going to get until you see how the layers of enamel have fused onto the base, is what keeps the whole process fresh for me.

I’m lucky to be able to use the magnetism of the area I live in as a catalyst for both my photography and jewellery, and because it’s such a fast changing environment – sometimes from minute to minute – I don’t think the inspiration will ever wane.
