About

Hello

Thank you for visiting my shop. I am a recently retired lecturer with a passion for knitting. I live in Scotland, where I enjoy creating quality, unique, hand knitted garments, mostly unisex with natural materials like wool and cashmere. I spend my summer months in Italy where I prefer to knit with eco-friendly cotton. When I am not knitting, I enjoy painting, cycling and growing organic vegetables and, of course, cooking and eating my fresh produce with family and friends.

There is nothing I enjoy more than knitting something from a vintage pattern with quality materials, preferably organic and eco-friendly, that is both challenging and beautiful.

As everything is hand-knitted by me without the help of machines or employed knitters, I only knit a limited number of items each season. I do not normally knit to order, unless I get a special request from friends or family. Most of the patterns I use are vintage French designs with my own adaptations. Each item I knit will be a bit different so they are normally a one-off. I am not looking to make a huge profit, but merely to cover the costs of my hobby and to buy new and interesting eco friendly top quality materials that are breathable and better for baby's skin. I avoid the use of acrylic (plastic) wherever possible. Although natural materials cost more initially, I think it is better value in the long term. They are kinder to baby's skin and will last much longer than throwaway cheap acrylics and can be washed and rewashed then passed on through the family. Most modern merino wools and organic cottons are machine washable now at 30 degrees, making washing easy for busy parents.

Not all wool, cashmere or cotton is the same. Some farmers use methods that are damaging to the animals and the environment, which produce inferior quality products. Although the materials cost a bit more, top quality materials produce a more luxurious garment that will provide natural comfort and beauty for a baby. I think it is important to support natural producers avoiding the use of intensive farming, pesticides, chemical fertilisers and dyes, resulting in less pollution. I like to avoid polluting acrylic (plastic) as much as possible.

I hope you see something you like, but if not, please keep checking or message me, as I will be adding new items every few weeks. As I live in Italy in the summer months, the shop will normally only be opened from October to March, but I will be creating some new one-off designs for next season's stock during this period.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any queries. I will be happy to help.
