About

Hello

Thank you for visiting my shop. I am a recently retired lecturer with a passion for knitting. I live in Scotland where I enjoy creating quality, unique, hand knitted garments mostly with natural materials like wool and cashmere, but spend my summer months in Italy where I prefer to knit with eco-friendly cotton. When I am not knitting, I enjoy cycling, painting and growing organic vegetables and of course cooking and eating my fresh produce.

I have knitted just about everything, from a yellow polka dot bikini (many moons ago in the swinging sixties), to a cashmere christening layette, with many outfits for my children and grandchildren. I am
still learning something new every week; Youtube is my new teacher. There is nothing I enjoy more than knitting something from a vintage pattern with quality material, preferably organic and eco-friendly, that is both challenging and beautiful.

I do not use any machines, or employ other knitters, so I can only knit a limited number of items each year, including special requests from friends and family, which are sold privately. Most of the patterns I use are vintage French designs with my own adaptations. Each item I knit will be a bit different so they are normally a one-off. I am not looking to make a huge profit, but merely to cover the costs of my hobby and to buy new and interesting eco friendly top quality materials.

Not all wool, cashmere or cotton is the same. Some farmers use methods that are damaging to the animals and the environment and produce inferior quality products. Although the materials cost a bit more, top quality materials produce a more luxurious garment that will provide natural comfort and beauty for a baby. I think it is important to support natural producers trying to avoid the use of intensive farming and chemical dyes and plastics as much as we can.

I hope you see something you like, but if not, please keep checking or message me, as I will be adding new items every week, unless I am working on a private order. As I live in Italy in the summer months, the shop will normally only be opened from October to April, but I will be working on next season's stock during this period.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any queries that I can help you with. I will be more than happy to help and offer advice. Thanks for your interest.
