A craft that started out as a hobby during one of the many lockdowns has turned into a growing business. The inspiration for my craft came from my experience working with fragrances for a few years before making candles. And a part of my job was helping people find the appropriate scent for a loved one, a parent, a wedding day, or just for themselves and for absolutely no reason at all.

I enjoyed helping people find a scent that connected them to people and memories they wanted to cherish forever. It was precisely this connection between relationships and scents that inspired my craft and what I hope you can see in my collections.

When I was working in fragrance, I remember helping a woman choose her wedding fragrance. After about an hour of browsing through scents she thought she liked, she decided to let me suggest fragrances that were more suitable for the type of wedding she was planning. She immediately recognised a particular fragrance and said, "This smells just like my mom. This isn't a fragrance she's ever worn but it smells just like her." And she stayed with it.

The scents we choose for our wedding, for our home, or for someone special can last a lifetime. Our sense of smell is most closely linked to memory which is why at Avary & Birch, I am careful when crafting candles and selecting fragrances. My purpose is to capture those moments and memories and to be a part of that 'Ah Ha' moment when you've figured out why a scent has triggered a memory.
