Try not to focus too much on one thing - you might just miss that golden opportunity.

I have always enjoyed rooting through junk shops, charity shops and boot fairs to buy old vinyl records and CDs. In all the years that I enjoyed this ceaseless search I never looked at the bric-a-brac and collectables that were also on offer and it was only when I noticed a beautifully crafted piece of studio pottery on a stall one day that I began to see how many of these lovely items I had missed when I limited my search to vintage music.

Coincidentally I was given an opportunity too good to miss to give up working full time for others and to start to enjoy the second half of my life doing things I would much rather be doing; I soon realised that I could turn half a lifetime's experience of rummaging and collecting into a business.

My interest in art and design, and in particular the artists and makers of the Arts & Crafts Movement, led me to the name Believe To Be Beautiful as my unofficial motto has long been the famous saying by William Morris - "Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful." I'm loving seeking out new things to tempt those who also love to be surrounded by beautiful and useful things so I hope you will stop a while and browse what's on offer.

Why choose Believe to be Beautiful?

Vintage and Retro – Every one of the Vintage or Retro Homewares, Rare Collectables or Unusual Curiosities that I sell in my Etsy shop has been sourced by me for your delight. I am constantly on the hunt for attractive and unusual pottery, china and glass that still has a useful purpose for your home or which is beautiful enough to enhance or complete your collection.

Descriptions you can trust – I am not an expert in any particular area of vintage so I always research items to ensure that I provide as accurate a description of their provenance as possible. Some vintage items come with blemishes or flaws resulting from the life they have lead up to the point when I picked them. I always aim to photograph and describe any damage to enable you to make an informed choice before you buy.

Care Instructions – Before photographing and listing items I always check them over and give them an appropriate clean. This means hand washing for china, glass and especially pottery which should never be placed in the dishwasher. Metal and wood items are given a wipe over but where a patina is part of the appeal this will be maintained where possible and deeper cleaning will be left to the discretion of the buyer and stated in the listing.

Packing and Postage – All fragile items are first wrapped in tissue paper and bubble wrap before being packed in a new, quality padded envelope or cardboard box with newspaper or other cushioning. I use Royal Mail and aim to post within two working days of your payment clearing (excluding Bank Holidays and weekends), and will confirm dispatch and provide tracking numbers.

Returns and exchange details

I hope you will love your item as much as I did to include it in my beautiful things. However, if you don't, and the goods were purchased within the UK and EU, you can contact me to request to return the goods within 14 days of the day it arrived. PLEASE NOTE: You are responsible for paying the postage to send the goods back and should send them via a signed for service with insurance to arrive within 7 days following your request. Once the goods are safely received in the same condition as when originally despatched, then your purchase payment will be refunded, including original postage costs where applicable.

If an item was purchased outside the EU and you wish to return it you will be responsible for the return postage costs and you must mark the package 'RETURN' to avoid incurring import duties on arrival in the UK. Should duties be incurred these will be deducted from your refund. PLEASE NOTE: You are responsible for paying the postage to send the goods back and should send them via a signed for service with insurance. Once the goods are safely received in the same condition as when originally despatched, then your purchase payment will be refunded, excluding the original postage costs which are non-refundable.

Goods received sealed for health protection or hygiene reasons are exempt from cancellation rights once they are unsealed.

When an item is returned to me marked undelivered by the carrier due to the Buyer's failure to accept delivery at the time delivery was attempted, I will contact you. If the goods are still in their original saleable condition you may opt for a refund of your original purchase price excluding the original postage costs which are non-refundable. You may alternatively opt to have the goods re-sent but should be aware that this will incur additional charges. These will be provided in writing to enable you to make an informed choice.

Please make payment via Direct Checkout. See full Terms and Conditions below regarding Price and Payment and Cancellation and Return (if applicable).

I use Royal Mail 2nd Class Signed For services in the UK and if an item is suitable for postage overseas I use Royal Mail International Tracked & Signed.

I will ship no later than 3 working days following receipt of your cleared payment excluding weekends and UK Bank Holidays. Delivery times within the UK should not exceed 5 working days under normal delivery conditions. International delivery can be as quick as 5 to 7 working days but things can take a little longer when being processed through customs or by different carriers, so please allow up to 28 business days for your order to arrive. Please note that you are responsible for any import duties or taxes incurred.

I use both new and recycled packing materials where possible in order to keep Believe To Be Beautiful environmentally friendly. I always make every effort to pack fragile goods so that they arrive in the condition they were in when they left, however you should be aware there is always a risk of poor handling by third parties during transit. When receiving fragile goods please ensure the package is delivered in good condition before signing to accept delivery. If you open the package and find the goods have been broken in transit please contact me as soon as possible and photograph the goods and the packaging; this must be retained until any claims have been settled. I will have proof of posting to assist with any claims against Royal Mail services.

Information I Collect

To fulfil your order, you must provide me with certain information (which you authorised Etsy to provide to me), such as your name, email address, postal address, payment information, and the details of the product that you’re ordering. You may also choose to provide me with additional personal information (for a custom order of jewellery, for example), if you contact me directly.

Why I Need Your Information and How I Use It

I rely on a number of legal bases to collect, use, and share your information, including:

as needed to provide my services, such as when I use your information to fulfil your order, to settle disputes, or to provide customer support;
when you have provided your affirmative consent, which you may revoke at any time, such as by signing up for my mailing list;
if necessary to comply with a legal obligation or court order or in connection with a legal claim, such as retaining information about your purchases if required by tax law; and
as necessary for the purpose of my legitimate interests, if those legitimate interests are not overridden by your rights or interests, such as 1) providing and improving my services. I use your information to provide the services you requested and in my legitimate interest to improve my services; and 2) Compliance with the Etsy Seller Policy and Terms of Use. I use your information as necessary to comply with my obligations under the Etsy Seller Policy and Terms of Use.

Information about my customers is important to my business. I share your personal information for very limited reasons and in limited circumstances, as follows:

Etsy. I share information with Etsy as necessary to provide you my services and comply with my obligations under both the Etsy Seller Policy and Etsy Terms of Use.
Service providers. I engage certain trusted third parties to perform functions and provide services to my shop, such as delivery companies. I will share your personal information with these third parties, but only to the extent necessary to perform these services.
Business transfers. If I sell or merge my business, I may disclose your information as part of that transaction, only to the extent permitted by law.
Compliance with laws. I may collect, use, retain, and share your information if I have a good faith belief that it is reasonably necessary to: (a) respond to legal process or to government requests; (b) enforce my agreements, terms and policies; (c) prevent, investigate, and address fraud and other illegal activity, security, or technical issues; or (d) protect the rights, property, and safety of my customers, or others.

Data Retention

I retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to provide you with my services and as described in my Privacy Policy. However, I may also be required to retain this information to comply with my legal and regulatory obligations, to resolve disputes, and to enforce my agreements. I generally keep your data for the following time period: 4 years.

Your Rights

If you reside in certain territories, including the EU, you have a number of rights in relation to your personal information. While some of these rights apply generally, certain rights apply only in certain limited cases. I describe these rights below:

Access. You may have the right to access and receive a copy of the personal information I hold about you by contacting me using the contact information below.
Change, restrict, delete. You may also have rights to change, restrict my use of, or delete your personal information. Absent exceptional circumstances (like where I am required to store data for legal reasons) I will generally delete your personal information upon request.
Object. You can object to (i) my processing of some of your information based on my legitimate interests and (ii) receiving marketing messages from me after providing your express consent to receive them. In such cases, I will delete your personal information unless I have compelling and legitimate grounds to continue using that information or if it is needed for legal reasons.
Complain. If you reside in the EU and wish to raise a concern about my use of your information (and without prejudice to any other rights you may have), you have the right to do so with your local data protection authority.

For purposes of EU data protection law, I, Tracey Maguire, am the data controller of your personal information. If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact me at info [!at] Alternately, you may mail me at:
