This valet box is amazing.Judy and Erwin did an amazing job. I can’t wait to give it to my girlfriend. It actually is more beautiful than that picture. It shipped earlier than estimated and arrived unscathed. If you need a hand crafted item I strongly recommend Classic Wood Art

About

Handcrafting beautiful wooden boxes is truly a labor of love for us.

For the past 30 years, I have been a furniture maker, specializing in antique American styles. I have continued these traditions in creating decorative boxes as an art form. The simplicity and lightness of my designs originate in my appreciation for the early Federal period in American furniture (1790-1810). Each box is constructed using miter joinery and made to showcase the beautiful wood grain as it flows around the sides of the box. All our boxes are stained, finished, and waxed to a satiny shine.

The highlight of each box is the decorative inlay. I use 3 types of inlay.

• Traditional Marquetry: Small pieces of veneer are joined to form a picture that is flush with the top of the box. Hot sand is used to darken some of the veneer to create shading.

• Raised Inlay: Portions of the inlay “picture” are raised above the top of the box, like a carving. This design is similar to one used by the Greene brothers in the Arts and Crafts period (1900-1910).

• Monogram Inlay: Letters are engraved into the top of the box and filled with an epoxy resin to form the monogram.

Over the years, I have taught my wife, Judy, to work with me. She does all the wood finishing as well as communicating with the customers...the job she really enjoys!

As we design and make each box, we like to envision it holding someone’s treasured jewelry or keepsakes or as a gift for a delighted friend or family member.
