Note from shop owner Aloha lovelies! Due to the tanking of online sales I have made the hard decision to close the shop and get a day job. Thank you all for your support in 2020. I might be opening back up for the Christmas period. If you message me regarding any favourites still in stock I will respond and can set up a custom listing.

Turning Mud into Gold. A Life of Alchemy

I believe that buying something that is built to last and will be enjoyed by many generations is important. I also believe that it is important to be happy and to make happy in what ever you do.

All my original ceramic pieces are made by hand in my shed. I fire my pottery in a kiln that sits in the corner of the bedroom. Some pieces, like the funny plant pots and woodland decorations exude laughter and joy. Others, like the unique incense holders offer a contemplative oasis in the hectic desert of every day life. They are all beautiful pieces of heirloom pottery and ceramic art. Some functional but mostly not.

Because beautiful things don't need a reason.

I come from a long line of potters. Not the arty kind. The industrial kind. Mostly women who laboured in the factories of Stoke-on-Trent and the Five Towns fettling, painting, and helping to build that rich history of ceramics in England.

I was born and grew up in Canada and from a very young age I was fascinated with clay. I was constantly making things and creating miniature worlds. But it never occurred to me that it could be a career.

For over 20 years I pursued ceramics as a hobby. And a corporate career in product management helped me to finance a kiln, a wheel, and raw materials. It also helped me understand how to run a business.

In 2018 I decided to leave that corporate world and take some time off. Most of the time was spent in my garden shed working with clay. I love making things that make people happy. Little things. Things with happy faces, bright colours, and pleasing forms that make you want to pick them up and hold them in your hand.

The shelves in the shed started to groan under the weight of my production. You can only give away so many pigs and cats! And then people started to ask me if they could buy items for friends and family.

And so my life took a very unexpected turn and now my little garden shed is my full time workshop. Although the kiln doesn't fit in there. It sits in a corner of the one bedroom in my one bedroom flat.

Pottery and ceramics are art and science combined. They are an alchemy that turns common mud and iron and copper and base things into shining gifts and bright smiles. I am continually surprised by this magic every time I open the kiln.

Making things from clay from a very young age, I come from a long line of pottery workers. To turn mud into beautiful (not necessarily functional) objects is an almost unbelievable feat of alchemy that drives me to find the limits of the medium.

Frequently asked questions
What do you use for your free UK deliveries?

Free UK deliveries under £20 are sent via Royal Mail 2nd Class. These are not tracked and signed.

For UK deliveries over £20 the service used is Royal Mail 2nd Class Tracked and Signed.

European deliveries are sent Royal Mail International Tracked and Signed.

US and elsewhere are sent Royal Mail International Tracked and Signed.

Are your materials non-toxic/food safe

Yes, all the ceramic clay and glazes I use are lead free and non-toxic.

Some items may not be food safe due to the firing process (EG where crakles or crazing is desirable for artistic effect this would not be suitable for food due to the possibility that bacteria may get into the cracks)

I also use metallic lustres and paints. While non-toxic these can wear over time and I do not use them on pieces intended for food.

Wholesale availability

I can do orders for wholesale on a number of product lines including incense burners, ring dishes, Christmas tree ornaments, aromatherapy diffusers, animals, miniatures, and just about any other item you see in the shop.

Pricing depends on the number and type of item so please contact me to discuss your needs.

Custom and personalised orders

I love doing custom orders for people who need a special gift or even just want to treat themselves!

Unlike other producers of things like custom ring dishes or mugs etc, I do not use pre-made ceramic blanks or airdry/oven bake clay. This means custom items can take 4-6 weeks depending on where I am in the production cycle.

Ceramic items handmade from raw materials are a timeless and heirloom quality gift that will not wear, scratch, or fade over time. They do not contain plastics or polymers. In short they are WELL worth the wait.

Please contact me to discuss your needs.

Gift wrapping and packaging

Ceramics are fragile and need to be carefully packaged for shipping. This means that getting your pieces to you in ONE piece takes precedence over making the packing pretty.

Items are wrapped in many layers of newspaper and then packed in newspaper. This is the most eco-friendly method which means I am recycling and you can too.

Gift wrapping is definitely possible and all gift orders are sent with a card. If you are sending an item as a gift it will be wrapped with an outer layer of colourful tissue paper over the newspaper. If appropriate and practical an item may go in a separate box that is then wrapped.

Please contact me to discuss your needs.
