About

My prints are inked by hand.

Learning from the expertise of others on many different hands-on workshops, I have always loved learning new skills. Originally training as a linguist in my twenties, and even braving teacher training in Modern Foreign Languages in my forties, I now accept I am fundamentally a person who needs to create.

Printmaking started as a hobby almost ten years ago, discovered quite by accident whilst doing A Level Fine Art (also in my forties). I was lured by the adventure of it; peeling the paper off the plate and never being quite sure what I will find. Both monoprinting and collagraph printing rely heavily on experimentation, so there is always a new direction I can take.

Now I am learning Mandarin Chinese as a hobby, and printmaking has become my full-time occupation. This means I have been able to devote time to it. I own a decent-sized intaglio printing press and enjoy running printmaking workshops from my home. I have twice taken part in the biennial "Dorset Art Weeks" open studio event.

What motivates me to print? Learning new techniques, experimenting and improving. What inspires me? I am not limiting myself to any particular theme, but currently I am happily exploring some ideas taken from my experiences on a recent trip to China. I am an artist and a linguist, so the culture behind the language always intrigues me. This fascination naturally feeds into my printmaking. Please see my website for a more extensive collection of hand-inked prints related to my trip to China.

Frequently asked questions

Sizing details

Dimensions are given in centimetres and I give an approximate conversion into inches. If the print is unframed, the dimension given denotes the printed area only (marked as: "Plate dimension"). Immediately beneath the printed area will be the title, edition number and my signature. For framing purposes you would need to account for the plate dimension, plus a small margin around the printed area to incorporate the title and signature (usually about 1 - 2 cm), plus an extra 5 - 7 cm on all four sides for the mount. If the print is supplied framed, I give dimensions of the printed area (plate size) as well as the frame dimension.
