Ancient to modern, Sherwood Forest to Santa Fe: inspiration is all around me...

I've been crafty all my life ... along with freckles, you could say it's my inheritance. I come from a long line of folks who spend their spare time dedicated to creation ... art, photography, jewellery, dress-making, carpentry, mechanics, it never did matter in my family just so long as our hands are busy and our minds are quiet.

I set my heart on becoming an archaeologist when I was very small, and over the years I've made that dream a reality. Archaeology is all about discovery, uncovering the riches that time forgot ... not gold or treasures, but hidden trinkets and forgotten flotsam that tells us so much about who we were and what we are. Travel is about discovery too, and I've traversed the globe from the New Mexican desert to the cherry blossomed gardens of Kyoto. Each and every place I've ever been has left its mark, indelibly, on my mind, and that rich and vibrant source of inspiration shines through in everything I create.

How am I here? Easy ... Tanuki Matt (a.k.a. my long-suffering and endlessly supportive partner) scuttled in one day and gifted me a shiny, new sewing machine. In one swift second, he had reignited the embers of a passion I've had for sewing since childhood and the rest, as they say, is history (or should that be archaeology, instead?).

So here I am ... in my little dolls' house, in the midst of a bustling suburb of Nottingham, in the heart of mediaeval Sherwood Forest, sewing, sewing, sewing ...

An archaeologist by day - a crafty sewing demon by night ... it's true, I promise! I've travelled a lot and what makes my creations so special is that each is infused with inspiration not only from across the globe but also from across the centuries.

  • Tanuki Matt

    Santa's Little Helper

Tanuki Matt, fuelled by lasagne, loves all things shiny. He's a loner, eking out an existence on the edge of Sherwood, trundling in through the cat-flap to steal food and generally raise a ruckus... and he leaves beautiful creations in his wake..

Frequently asked questions
When will my order arrive?

I aim to dispatch your order within 3 working days of receiving payment, unless otherwise stated in the listing.

Under 'normal' circumstances, shipments to Worldwide and EU buyers generally take 7-15 working days to arrive after dispatch, or 3-7 working days for UK buyers.

Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee that a shipment will arrive with you by a certain date ... once handed over, the speed of your parcel's journey is entirely within the hands of the postal service, rather than you or I.

Can I pay for express delivery?

Some listings contain an upgraded shipping option, which you can select upon checkout. However, if you'd like to upgrade your shipping for an additional charge, please convo me and I'll do my very best to make it happen.

Gift wrapping and packaging

All my items are presented neatly, in beautiful packaging (logo printed tissue paper and black ribbon). However, if you'd like your order specially gift wrapped, please convo/message me before you checkout and I'd be glad to help.

Custom Orders - Quilts

I love working up custom orders because I adore working with a customer to bring their ideas to life. Simply send me a message, outlining roughly what you'd like, and I'll get back to you (normally within a couple of days) to discuss the details, and agree the next steps.

Custom Orders - Buttons and Fabric

Unfortunately, I'm not currently able to take on custom orders for buttons or hand dyed fabric.

Who makes what you sell?

Everything in this Etsy store is made by me (Elaine) or my partner-in-craft (Tanuki Matt).

All my quilts and bags are made by hand, of the highest quality materials, using my sewing machine, with hand-stitched details where applicable. Each of these hand-crafted pieces is unique and may contain the occasional minor imperfection; we think you'll agree that this only adds to their charm and individuality, producing a lovingly crafted creation that you will treasure for years.

All my craft supplies are also made by our own fair hands, using the very best 'ingredients' ... I use my own supplies in my own projects, and my standards are high!

What is a quilt? How is it different from a duvet?

Traditional quilts such as the ones I make don't resemble modern duvets - they are far thinner by comparison, but have far more charm and are soft and snuggly nevertheless!

They're deceptively warm, yet breathable - they work brilliantly on a sofa, in a den, at a picnic, to cover your thicker bedding in winter or to sleep directly beneath during the hot summer months.

How do you take your photos?

All of the photographs in each listing are taken in natural daylight in order to produce as true a representation of this item as possible.

However, please bear in mind that every computer monitor displays colours differently and there may be some small variation in the colours you see on your monitor compared with the finished product.

If precise colour matching is really important, please convo/message me for more information.
