5 out of 5 starsThis is the second carpet I get from Helen, this time for my violin. She made one of a matching pattern for my viola. Now my violin and viola look like siblings! 🥰

5 out of 5 starsI bought this for my wife's xmas present. She loves it. Not only it's beautiful, but its sturdy thick fabric gives great protection toward bow drop and other incidents. (bow holder for BAM cases are not very well made....).

5 out of 5 starsHelen customized this viola blanket for me because I like her other violin blanket but it is too small for my viola. She hand picked the fabrics and made the blanket fitted like native to my case. The blanket turns out very nicely, it has a comfortable weight and looks like a very warm friend to my viola <3
If you are a string player, I think you should have one of Helen’s blankets. Beyond the elegance in the handmade blankets I think it is also meaningful as a support to our contemporary and future instrument makers. -

5 out of 5 starsBeautiful cello blanket! Nice and soft, thick, super well crafted. Really really impressive. My cello is weird and needs the neck strap lengthened but that's an easy fix I'll do soon. I'll definitely be back for more stuff. :D

5 out of 5 starsWonderfully crafted protective violin blanket, creative, and using a mix of beatiful colors and striking design. This was purchased as a gift for my instrument, which is currently being repaired. Looked great on my Musafia case, plus the rounded edges matched it quite well, as I expected. Carefully packed, a true labor of love. Most recommended! These will protect your instrument, and inspire you. Many thanks to Ms. Helen for her thoughtfully designed and careful work. Very happy.

About instrumentblankets
How a violin maker got a busy sideline in making instrument blankets
I've been a professional violin maker for thirty years, and in my spare time I love to sew. One of my customers came to the workshop with damage to her cello from the bow in the case, I had a growing stock of lovely fabric remnants, so the idea of making instrument blankets was born. After a few months I had used all my stocks of fabric, so now I'm always on the lookout for beautiful and durable fabrics for the blankets as well as high quality trimmings to finish them neatly.
I make all the blankets myself, using my sewing machine and finishing by hand. I love the hand sewing, it's quiet and soothing late at night listening to music.
I'm keen to support the next generation of violin makers, and am a trustee of the RAB Trust, which supports student violin makers. So I decided to donate the proceeds from the instrument blankets to RAB. After three years of production I have been able to send nearly £4000 to RAB, which will fund the purchase of tools, wood and cover expenses for work experience placements.

I was born in London, and trained as a violin maker at the Newark School of Violin Making In 1980 I set up my own business as a violin maker, and now work in Manchester. I have always loved sewing too, so the blankets combine two major interests.
