After graduating from Sheffield Hallam university with a degree in Industrial design, I followed a career into advertising. 10 years in to my career I became a single mum to a 14 month old and reevaluated what direction I wanted to head in.

I decided to take matters into my own hands, get up an hour earlier than my baby every day, which I dedicated to learning all the design software needed to create laser cutting design files. I found a community funded fabrication lab and was able to learn how to use a laser cutter for 1 hour a week around working full time, developing designs and familiarising myself with the nuances of all the materials.

5 years, a lot of hard work and another baby later, I've finally saved up enough money to purchase my own machine, launching my laser cutting design service in lockdown after being made redundant. It feels like the start of something really exciting.
