Our story

Maria Allen Boutique is an online personalised gift company, where each product is designed and made in their creative studio in Brighton, England.

The aim of the company is to create keepsakes and gifts that help to treasure the most important people, moments and memories in life and their products include personalised luggage tags, locket necklaces containing hidden messages and walnut wood cufflinks etched with co-ordinates of a chosen location. The range is sold online and also stocked in carefully selected independent shops and galleries.

Our products have been featured in magazines including Stylist, Country Living, Fabulous and The Times magazine. They have created exclusive ranges for the gift shops at Kew Gardens, The British Museum, The Royal Academy of Arts and have designed and produced Christmas decorations for Harrods.

Maria started the business in 2008 while she was studying Graphic Design at Brighton University and has been running it full time since she graduated in 2011. It started in her parents’ kitchen and, after moving twice due to expansion, is now based in a studio space in Hove.

Welcome to our shop. All of our products are designed and personalised here in our studio in Hove, East Sussex. We take great pride in producing unique and beautiful gifts from reclaimed and sustainable wood sources.

The following items can't be returned or exchanged
Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalised orders
  • Perishable products (like food or flowers)
  • Digital downloads
  • Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)

We are confident that you will love our products, but if you are not 100% happy with your order please let us know as soon as possible and we will be very happy to help.

Changed your mind about a purchase? We are happy to refund non personalised items within 14 days or purchase. Please note that we are unable to offer refunds on any personalised items. Any product must be returned in its original packaging, unused and undamaged within 14 days of having received the order. The cost of the item will be refunded minus the shipping fee. Unfortunately for hygiene reasons, earrings cannot be returned.

In the unlikely event that your parcel goes missing we will only be able to resend or refund your order once 30 days has passed. You can pay using Paypal, Visa debit/credit, Mastercard or American Express. Please remember that items will not be shipped until payment has been received.
Delivery
We aim to make and send all orders within 1-2 business days of your order being placed.

USA DELIVERY
We offer fast and reliable delivery to the USA for as little as £4.95. There are 3 options available to you at checkout:
Small Items (such as cufflinks & jewellery)
- Standard £4.95 - delivery usually within 14 working days (please note this is not a tracked service)
- Tracked - £10.00 - delivery within 10 working days
- Courier - £22.00 - delivery 1-3 working days

Large items (such as jewellery boxes)
- Tracked - £12.00- delivery within 10 working days
- Courier - £24.00 - delivery 1-3 working days

If you would like a shipping quote for multiple items simply drop us an email and we will be happy to help!

*please note: sometimes parcels may be held for up to 14 days in US customs, we ensure all paperwork is correctly filled in to prevent this but sometimes the delay may be out of our control. Please be patient when awaiting your delivery and do get it touch if you are concerned about the whereabouts of your order.

UK DELIVERY
We offer free delivery on all UK orders, if you choose our free delivery service your order will normally be sent by Royal Mail 1st who aim to deliver within 1-2 days from dispatch. They target over 93% of items next-day, and around 99% within 2 days, but can take up to 4 days.

If you require your order by a specific date, you may choose to upgrade your delivery at checkout and can choose from:
- Express next day (please order by 1pm Monday-Thursday for delivery the following business day)
- Saturday Delivery (order on Friday by 1pm for delivery the next day)

Please note that Royal Mail standard postage can only confirm an item as lost after 10 working days so we will be unable to assist with late delivery concerns until after this period.

INTERNATIONAL DELIVERY
For orders outside the UK our standard shipping is airmail. Please note that this is not a tracked service and can take up to 14 working days to arrive. We recommend upgrading to a tracked service if your order is worth more than $50.

You can upgrade to Royal Mail Tracked/Signed post and your order will arrive 3-5 working days to Europe or 4-7 working days to the rest of the world.

We also have the option to upgrade to a much faster international courier service. You can select this option at checkout. As delivery time varies by country please contact us if you require your order by a particular date and we will do everything we can to get it to you by that date.

LATE DELIVERIES

Please note that on occasion parcels can take up to 2 weeks to pass through customs, please be patient when awaiting your delivery.

In the unlikely event that your parcel goes missing we will unfortunately only be able to resend or refund your order once 30 days has passed as our shipping partners cannot investigate lost claims until this duration has passed.
Additional policies and FAQs
Care Policy:
Many of our pieces are made from wood. All of our wooden jewellery is finished with a danish oil to protect against moisture but please note that submergence in water is not recommended and may cause lasting damage.

Please note that due to the natural quality of wood, grain and colour may vary between each product and may differ slightly from that of the product image. The colour of wood may also change and darken with time. This is a gradual change and will be likely to go unnoticed.

Factors that may affect the discolouring of metal jewellery pieces are: perfume, water and constant exposure to sunlight. Please take due care and regard of the physical nature of the jewellery and remove before bathing.

Custom Orders:
We are always happy to receive custom orders and will do our very best to help you develop your perfect piece of jewellery or accessory. Please note that custom designs fees of between £8-£15 will be added to your order, we will always discuss this fee with you before proceeding.

Payment for custom orders:
For orders over £100, a deposit of 10% must be made as soon as quote has been agreed between us. Payment policy still applies.

Custom orders normally take 3-4 working days longer than regular orders however this depends on the design, supplies and production times involved in your order. The consumer has the right to cancel or amend the order within the first week of placing the order. Due to the unique nature of each client’s specification, we are unable to cancel or amend the order after this time. In the event of amending the order, it may be subject to a new quote that requires additional payment.
