Beekeepers since 2018!

Our beekeeping adventure began in 2017 when Matt turned 30. His family asked me what he'd like as a gift and I suggested a beekeeping course because it's something we'd been talking about doing for a while. We went along to an Introduction to Beekeeping session in May 2017 with our local beekeeping association and were hooked! In the winter months we attended a beginner's beekeeping theory course and got our first hive in April 2018, which we kept on the teaching apiary. Every Saturday we were mentored on how to check our hive - making sure they didn't swarm, looking for signs of disease, knowing when it's time to extract honey etc. There was A LOT to learn but we both loved every minute of it. Now we have moved our original hive to the apiary Matt built on our allotment, and it has been joined by 3 more hives and a nucleus. We absolutely love our bees - even when the odd sting makes it through - and we have thoroughly enjoyed making honey, beeswax and bee-related gifts to sell locally and in our little Etsy shop. We have already learnt so much in the past 3 years and hope to continue beekeeping for many years to come!

Shop members

  • Matt

    Owner, Head Beekeeper

Matt is head beekeeper - he reads the books and watches the tutorials to learn more about the beekeeping challenges as they come up! He can also lift the supers when they're full of honey (and amazingly heavy!) so we can take them home to extract.

  • Jen

    Maker, Marketer, Photographer

Jen is assistant beekeeper as she's often at a craft fair with JenfleursCrafts at the weekend when Matt checks the hives! She's in charge of jarring the honey, making our bee-themed gifts, coordinating sales and marketing our bee-utiful items!
