Our mission is to help people find a little bit of mindfulness in their lives, a little moment of calm as their mind starts to quieten with the rhythmic movement of the needles. Whether it’s a moment for yourself after a long hard day at the office, or taking care of the kids, or something a little deeper than that, it doesn’t matter. The important thing is that feeling; that’s what we want to help spread and share – the respite that can come with a few hours of stitching away with a cuppa and some biscuits close by.

Gift yourself or a loved one a mindful moment this Christmas and help them discover the powerful therapeutic benefits of knitting.

Discover the mindfulness that comes with the rhythmic movement of each stitch

Welcome to moloneymakes! I’m Sophie Moloney; barista, knitter and enthusiastic eater(!)

I first learnt to knit around the age of 7 after I begged mum to teach me. I spent hours working up something that loosely resembled a square and remember the satisfying sense of achievement I felt after. Thus began a phase of knitting up square after square (I think I envisioned some magnificent blanket) which lasted a few months, perhaps a year, but faded as my young mind no doubt found another curiosity to bestow my concentration.

It wasn’t until my 20s that knitting made a reappearance in my life. In my years at university I fell ill, caught up in the depths of anorexia and battling mental illness and it was during my recovery that I rediscovered my needles. With each stitch I created, a little piece of me began to return and I have honestly never looked back since.

My mission now is to help spread little bit of that ‘thing’ that helped me several years ago. I want to help people find a little bit of mindfulness in their lives, a little moment of calm as their mind starts to quieten with the rhythmic movement of the needles. Whether it’s a moment for yourself after a long hard day at the office, or after taking care of the kids, or something a little deeper than that, it doesn’t matter. The important thing is that feeling; that’s what I want to help spread and share – the respite that can come with a few hours of stitching away with a cuppa and some biscuits close by.
