I was asked whether my latest tutorial would work with Size 8 Seeds instead of the 3mm bicones, rounds or fire-polished beads that I originally recommended - and it does! I checked! Still classy, but far less expensive to make! :)

Obstinately Pursuing Perfection

Hi, I’m Clair Rigby. I’m a fun loving, thirty-something with a passion for beadwork and jewellery making. Self-taught from magazines, books and on-line tutorials, the discovery of bead-weaving techniques about three years ago released a ‘design demon’ and I have become a little bit obsessed with teeny, tiny seed beads!

It’s the architectural nature of dimensional beadwork that appeals to me, I love watching structures and shapes develop with the addition of each new bead. The possibilities are almost endless! It reminds me a little of my childhood favourite, Lego, when I would sit for hours working out how to create new shapes and structures with the same basic materials – some things never change!

As an artist I am hugely inspired by both Art Deco and Art Nouveau and my work often appears to be created by someone with a split personality – displaying either a love of linear design, colour and geometric shapes or a love of nature, with fluidic shapes, textures and surprising details.

Passing along my love of beadwork is important to me, so alongside creating new designs, I am working on a small, but developing, range of bead-weaving tutorials and beadwork kits. These are available online from my own etsy store and from several, independent bead stores in the UK.

My great mistake, the fault for which I can't forgive myself, is that one day I ceased the obstinate pursuit of my own individuality. ~ Oscar Wilde.
