Hi, my name is Patti

Painting was a surprise and a gift that just 'happened' during lockdown.

After struggling for a while to find meaning and joy, I signed up for some art therapy sessions in my local area. The process was very simple. I just got to talk about my life while I doodled and drew with coloured pens. At the time it didn't feel like much, it was just 'nice' to have some time out and to just enjoy creating shapes and colours and lines.

Then near the end of my sessions, my Therapist made an observation. She said "how is it that your life is so controlled but your art is so free?".

I was totally taken aback. What a brilliant question? I spent my childhood surrounded by art, creativity, dance, choreography and more and now, as a single mama trying to survive, life felt so dry, humourless and devoid of real joy!

Around this time I felt such a powerful urge to start painting watercolour. Both my mother and grandmother were watercolourists but I'd never had any desire to try it. But suddenly it felt like something that wanted to burst out of my chest.

It took me 6 months to get around to trying it. Thanks to Covid and lockdown, I suddenly found myself with time and space so I bought the equipment I needed and started painting.

My first painting was a disaster! And nothing like what I could feel wanting to pour out of me. But I just continued. Diving into online tutorials and being brave. I wanted to be unconcerned about the finished product and just let whatever was inside me pour out.

What I wasn't ready for was the unbridled joy! The utter delight at seeing a painting take form.

And now I'm totally addicted! And all I want is to share this joy and delight with you.

My home is filled with my paintings and I can feel all the softness and ease I could sense inside me pouring out into my work.

My wish is that my art brings you as much joy as it has brought me.
