Announcement    Hello & welcome to The Sunshine Bindery! You'll find high quality, ethically hand-crafted notebooks, sketchbooks and upcycled leather journals, as well as eco friendly greetings cards, prints and paper goods.

As a small business our ethics are all about supporting and loving the environment as much as we can, so we have made sure that all of our cards are printed onto UK-sourced recycled stock and come supplied with a matching recycled envelope, and are finished and packaged by hand in a biodegradable corn starch bag for that low waste, eco friendly gift giving alternative.

Our journals are made by hand completely from scratch, using hand tools and traditional book binding techniques, and are hand-stitched using a simple needle and natural waxed linen, hemp and cotton thread. They are filled to the brim with 100% recycled paper and our leather journals are made souly from second-hand, found and thrifted leather, so that we are keeping out of the demand and supply chain of buying new, as our method and ethos is all about bringing life and love into the world with our products as much as we can :)

Hand-crafted, ethical leather journals, recycled sketchbooks and eco friendly stationery with a low-waste inspired philosophy

We are a small independent creative business specialising in hand crafted paper goods with a conscious, eco-friendly vibe inspired by the zero waste movement. With all of our products, we design, source and hand make everything as locally, ethically and sustainably as possible, and it is our intention to keep exploring ways to lessen our impact as we go along. I whole-heartedly believe in trying to limit our use of our beautiful Earth's resources, and giving back as much as we can, so this is my way of trying to contribute to changing our attitudes towards the environment in a positive and gentle way, by providing beautifully hand crafted products with a low impact gift giving alternative. This is why we choose recycled materials for our cards and prints as much as possible, biodegradable corn starch bags to package our products in (no plastic, yay!), and recycle and remake our own paper using leftover scraps and post-consumer waste collected from local businesses. We are simply trying to do our little bit towards helping to create a more wholesome and positive future :)

Our story began in 2016, with me (Mell, the owner), deciding to switch up my 9-5 lifestyle of working in a pretty busy little cafe to one of much more calm, creative and independent vibe. I had been diagnosed with the chronic illness M.E. a year or so before this, and my health was deteriorating hugely due to the stress of being on my feet all day, so all in all it was a welcome change. I rested a lot, and in that time, my fingers began to twitch and my heart began to open up to all of the beautiful creative possibilities that I could explore with all of this free time I now had. And so, for hours melting into days, and before long days became weeks and then months, I started drawing again - and couldn't seem to stop! So this is where it all began, when you take the time to truly listen to your body and soul and take a moment to rest, and come home to yourself. This is where the magic happened for me.

So, fast forward a year or so, and here we are; running a lovely little business of which I whole heartedly adore and pour my love into daily, creating and designing soulful products which speak life and love into the hearts of others. It is my deepest intention to inspire and ignite passion and gentleness in the way that I create products, stationery and gifts, so that a little bit of love can be given to others through the creative process. In turn, it works a beautiful form of therapy for me, too.

The name 'Where We Run To' was inspired by all of the places that I ran to, when life got really tough, when my mental and physical health was struggling, I found that art, journalling and the creative process were hands down my saviours that would ground, root and centre my soul when everything was too chaotic around me. This, and being out in nature, connecting with the Earth, and reminding ourselves of how beautiful and simple life can be if we choose to let it.

This was how it came to be :)

I write poetry with my heart and make things with my hands. I adore notebooks, I listen to songs on repeat for days, and eat banana pancakes at the weekend. My absolute favourite place in the world would be by a calm, quiet lake with my sketchbook :)
