Hi I’m Clarissa and welcome to my Etsy shop, Design at Nine. I create detailed cityscape illustrations, drawings, typography and prints designed from my home studio at house No9 in Derbyshire UK.
From an early age, I’ve always wanted to be creative. One of my most distinctive memories was at the age of 8, where I drew a garden of Eden scene in my RE class at school and my teacher praised me for understanding perspective and scale from such an early age, I just couldn’t stop adding in all the details!
10 years later I went on to study graphic design at Uni, and I’m now a Senior Account Manager at a Design and Marketing agency in Nottingham.
Being in such a creative environment and working within such a vibrant city full of amazing architecture, it spurred me onto capturing the detail of these buildings and the cities I visit. I am intrigued by the details, and drawing buildings allows me a way in, to stop and look and hopefully understand some of that city’s hidden essence. I try to build a relationship with what I draw by noticing distinct structures and the way they sit together. Cities and their architecture are full of quirky and intense contrasts.
This is where my idea for Design at Nine was born.
My drawing process starts digitally, using ProCreate on the iPad and slowly building up the buildings character. I then use a palette of pastel and bold colours to make my final illustration pop! Each print is produced in pigment ink on matte archival paper resulting in a high quality, light and moisture resistant artwork ready for framing.
Along side my city illustrations, I also like to immerse myself in creating detailed animal illustrations. Having a graphic design background and a love of fonts and typography, I also like to create printed quotes.

Couldn't be more pleased; great customer service - a proof was sent for my approval before printing, delivery was fast and it arrived in perfect condition thanks to strong packaging.
