WHAT MAKES JANSSON PRODUCTS SO SPECIAL?

My designs play with charming retro borrowings from the 50s, 60s and 70s. At the same time, the origin and available quantity of the woods I process are decisive for the design concept of my furniture, because they are always woods with history and past: massive dalbs from the Port of Hamburg, weathered jetty planks from the North Sea or Baltic Sea. Or North German oak, which fell victim to one of the last autumn storms.

From this connection emerge charming compositions, which I like to call a mashup – a term that in the music scene stands for the merging of music titles without hiding their respective origins.

MY WORKING STYLE

I pay attention to simple, clear forms and attach great importance to durable wood connections in the sense of honest, manual work – over the years I have acquired the necessary expertise for this and am constantly looking for an exchange with people who are true masters of their craft.

Each piece of furniture is a handmade unique piece with a high recognition value. Whether tables, benches, sideboards or home accessories – they are always eye-catchers who have their roots in upcycling and are based on Scandinavian design classics of the 20th century.

WHAT MADE ME DECIDE TO BECOME A DESIGNER?

After years at my desk, I decided to finally do what I always wanted to do: design furniture and build it in my own workshop. Simply to design things that bear my signature and stand for their own aesthetics.

HOW CAN YOU IMAGINE MY STUDIO?
Speicherstadt, 300 sqm, Luke 10, 3rd floor. Above and below me carpet dealers. One half workshop and warehouse, the other showroom. The hatches are open in summer and winter. View of the Hamburg City Hall, the Katharinenkirche and the Landungsbrücken, on the other side Hafencity and Elbphilharmonie. There is a historic Blüthner grand piano in the showroom, which gives us wonderful jazz and classical concerts at intervals. Admission is free, it is played against the hat. On the walls works by artist friends, overall a wonderful place for idleness, inspiration and creative work.

JANSSON Mashup Design picks up this approach and combines the roughness of construction timber, or other woods with a history, with the time typical Style elements of the 50s and 60s in their furniture. Every piece is a handmade and unique single copy and therewith always has a prototypical character.

The result: Furniture with a unique touch and a high recognition value. No matter if you purchase a table, a bench, a sideboard or home décor – you will always end up with a real statement piece that catches the eye in any home, has their roots in upcycling and orientates oneself by the design classics of the 20th century.

WAS MACHT JANSSON PRODUKTE SO BESONDERS?

Meine Entwürfe spielen mit charmanten Retro-Anleihen aus den 50er, 60er und 70er Jahren. Gleichzeitig sind Herkunft und verfügbare Menge der Hölzer, die ich verarbeite, maßgeblich für das Designkonzept meiner Möbel, denn es handelt sich stets um Hölzer mit Geschichte und Vergangenheit: Massive Dalben aus dem Hamburger Hafen, verwitterte Stegplanken von Nord- oder Ostsee. Oder norddeutsche Eiche, die einem der letzten Herbststürme zum Opfer gefallen ist.

Aus dieser Verbindung heraus entstehen reizvolle Kompositionen, die ich gern als Mashup bezeichne – ein Begriff, der in der Musikszene für das Verschmelzen von Musiktiteln steht, ohne ihren jeweiligen Ursprung zu verhehlen.

MEIN ARBEITSSTIL

Ich achte auf schlichte, klare Formen und lege großen Wert auf durable Holzverbindungen im Sinne einer ehrlichen, handwerklichen Arbeit – über die Jahre habe ich mir hierfür die nötige Expertise angeeignet und suche permanent den Austausch mit Menschen, die wahre Meister ihres Faches sind.

Jedes Möbel ist ein handgefertigtes Einzelstück mit hohem Wiedererkennungswert. Egal, ob Tische, Bänke, Sideboards oder Wohnaccessoires – immer handelt es sich um Hingucker, die ihre Wurzeln im Upcycling haben und sich an skandinavischen Designklassikern des 20. Jahrhunderts orientieren.

WAS HAT MICH DAZU BEWOGEN, DESIGNER ZU WERDEN?

Nach Jahren am Schreibtisch entschloss ich mich irgendwann, endlich das zu tun, was ich schon immer tun wollte: Möbel zu entwerfen und in meiner eigenen Werkstatt zu bauen. Einfach Dinge zu gestalten, die meine Handschrift tragen und für eine eigene Ästhetik stehen.

WIE KANN MAN SICH MEIN ATELIER VORSTELLEN?
Speicherstadt, 300 qm, Luke 10 , 3. Boden. Über und unter mir Teppichhändler. Die eine Hälfte Werkstatt und Lager, die andere Showroom. Die Luken sind Sommer wie Winter geöffnet. Blick auf das Hamburger Rathaus, die Katharinenkirche und die Landungsbrücken, auf der anderen Seite Hafencity und Elbphilharmonie. Es steht ein historischer Blüthner-Flügel im Showroom, der uns in Abständen wunderbare Jazz- und Klassikkonzerte beschert. Der Eintritt ist frei, es wird gegen den Hut gespielt. An den Wänden Arbeiten von befreundeten Künstlern, insgesamt ein wunderbarer Ort für Müßiggang, Inspiration und kreatives Arbeiten.
