Last night I went to our local drug store before closing time. Standing outside was a Middle Eastern woman with a scarf on her head and a baby sitting on a blanket in a shopping cart. The baby looked about 1 year old. The woman had a little index card that said "Baby Hungry. No money. Please Help." She flashed it at me as I went in and I said "I'll think about it". I usually do not give money to panhandlers. But, the baby tugged at my heart strings so I went to the Baby aisle and chose 2 boxes of toddler oatmeal.
When I exited the store I handed them to her and said "For your baby" and she looked very angry and shouted "Money! Need Money! Money!" I was stunned. She wouldn't take them. I'm still angry and now stuck with 2 boxes of toddler oatmeal. Yuck. Last time I try and help someone. (It's always the babies or dogs that get to me for some reason...)

Maybe she didn't have anywhere to cook it? I know if my kid was that hungry I would have taken it.....hell if I was hungry I would have taken it. Donate it to a food bank.

Wow. I would have said "I'll give you money, you give me the kid."

That's horrible.
You do not need a stove or microwave to make baby oatmeal. Add water, stir and feed.

Bencandance you tried to do the right thing. Please don't let her dissuade you. I saw a guy with a will work for food sign once when I was on the way to pick up take out. I added a couple tacos and a soda to the order and dropped them by him on my way home. As I got out of the car and handed him the food, the look on his face was enough to make me buy food for anyone who looked down and out. He packed up his sign and ran up the street as I drove away. I have a feeling the food was meant to be shared with someone else.
you can always donate that oatmeal to a food pantry in your area. I am sure that they would be glad to have it, and then you know that someone who needs it will get it. And I am sorry that happened to you.

Oh, duh. Toddler oatmeal. Again though, add hot water, stir and feed.
