If I buy a piece of paper, bring it home and cover a box and put it in my Etsy store, can I be sued for copyright infringement?
I was under the impression that if I bought the paper it was mine to do with as I wish.
If not, what am I to use it for? Wrapping paper?

If you bought the paper with a pattern on it and you copied the exact pattern, printed it out and made your own paper with it and then sold that paper, that would be copy write infringement.

But all I did was use the piece that I bought. I didn't copy it in any way.

exactly, I was saying what you did is not copywrite infringement :)

Isn't paper sold as a supply anyways? Just like beads, fabric, glue, paint etc.

Okay, so here's why I asked.... I got a convo (via Etsy!) from the person that made the paper, telling me to cease and desist and take the box down. Then "their lawyer" sent an Etsy convo telling me to take it down.
Do they have a leg to stand on or should I take it down?I forwarded everything to support@etsy, but they haven't gotten back to me yet.

I am so surprised they found you on Etsy. I have read that they can say this to you but they don't really have a leg to stand on. You paid for this paper! It's yours! What about people re-selling paper in the supplies categories or re-selling paper?
