Is Etsy Going to Support Popular Sellers in Expanding Their Businesses?

Original Post
"So Etsy is considering an apprenticeship model that would help popular sellers turn out product. In return, apprentices would earn cash, possibly become eligible for group health insurance rates, and learn their craft, as well as how to make, market, photograph, list and sell stuff on Etsy."
- How does Etsy decide who makes the cut? (Certain people have already bragged about being part of it, of course.)
- Will this be limited to sellers in NY?
- Will this be limited to apprentices in NY?
- When will this be rolled out?
- How will buyers know what is handmade, and what is produced by an "apprentice"?
- Will anyone be able to get training on how "to... market, photograph, list and sell stuff on Etsy"? Seems like that would be useful to everyone, even if they don't make the select few. In fact, probably *more* useful to people who don't make the list.

(I know this is from May, but I just saw it. Sorry if it's old news.)

D'oh! Sorry. :P Either is good, I will probably get locked in a New York minute for a different reason, :(

Inquiring minds want to know. How do you get in? Is this going to be limited to the US? Popular sellers?

Oy, this is going to be a gazillion pages long before I get up in the morning. Or locked. O_o
But that article opens up a whole can of worms, not all of which I'm willing to put on a hook:
"These days, he’s thinking about a persistent crafters’ world built out in a Flash interface similar to the rest of the Etsy site, but complete with virtual currency, that would function as an online bazaar shoppers could roam around in. It would come complete with game-like elements to keep people engaged, Kalin says, and the virtual currency would be good for spending on real physical goods."
I can't buy supplies with virtual Etsycorp dollars. Or pay my car loan.

I see this as just an *idea* that was waaaay prematurely discussed/disclosed, and may never come to fruition.
[Much like The Storque, Live Chat, new categories & all the many other features we've been teased into believing *might* *possibly* *will* *could* *should* *one day* soon happen.]
To delve too deeply into the possibility & details of some apprentice program will probably be a lesson in further frustration (at least for me.)
I suppose I'm trying to take the "I'll Believe It When I See It" approach to Etsy.

interesting.
this sounds a little like what was mentioned on the blog when Etsy attended the licensing show, speaking of Etsy as a brand.
reminds me of threadless.com too.

Knowing the track record, how can we assume otherwise? :/
