Would you like to get publicity each time you write a feature and then again each time someone writes about you? 180 sound bites are possible! If you add links on your blogs’ sidebar leading to all your features that’s 360 sound bites possible!

- Invest your time, instead of your money.
- Create a huge online media blitz
- Get picked up by search engines
- Increase your visibility exponentially
- Increase your odds of sales

Sound good? Read on!

The object of this challenge is ultimately for 90 artists (technically 91 including myself) to all feature each other in our blogs as a way to increase exposure for everyone participating.

Instructions for all participants:

Please read and follow these instructions below. I can offer you the opportunity but it is up to each participant to follow through and do the work.

This will increase the odds of making increased sales if everyone plays their cards right and does their part over the holiday buying season.

We will keep accepting people until we have a full 91.

Please keep it positive and do not post or send paranoid or blaming messages saying you did not understand what was expected of you.

This is as simple as you make it, and it can be a lot of fun. Nobody said it was not work, but there is no form of advertising that doesn’t involve some effort on your part, and this doesn’t cost you any money. The process is clearly spelled out below.

1) Post your blog link of where you will be featuring the other artists signed up on this thread.

2) Then make a schedule starting on the day you sign up or the following day (if it is later) listing all current participants. Mix up the order so that you don’t feature people on the same day as a bunch of others do, and each artist’s publicity will be spread out.

3) Post your schedule on this thread so that other participants can read what you write, and can easily add you to their lists and post both your Etsy address and blog link when they feature you.

4) Bookmark this thread and check it at least once a day for any new participants or ones that are no longer on the list so that you can update your schedule.

5) You should be prepared to do 1 feature per day in your blog (or if you plan to be out of town you can make it up in advance). You can gather the information for these features any way you want; through the artist’s Etsy profile, their blog, other website, through interview questions, or from your own observations. Choose some pictures from the artist’s Etsy shop, website, or blog to supplement your text. Be sure to include both their Etsy shop address and blog link. You can also include other links if you’d like.

6) Notify next person on your list by convo, and post a link to your blog on this thread announcing who you’re featuring so that it will direct traffic to your blog and people can read and/or add comments.

Some Final Thoughts-

Please make this a priority and set aside a time to do this so that you do not fall behind. Consider this as another way to promote your business, and know that most people who are serious about promoting their business spend several hours per day on that aspect one way or the other and expect to put in some work and some time.

And lastly - enjoy and have fun! Enjoy discovering the new talented artists and craftspeople you'll be writing about and have a great time looking at all the delectable items while honing your blogging and writing skills!

Some Time-Saving Tips for Writing Feature Stories:

I have been finding as I write these some tricks to making the writing go faster. These tips might be helpful to anyone who is struggling with this. I hope this helps.

1) Take the person's profile, info from blog, and/or shop description (or parts of it) and paste it into a WORD Document

2) Then change all the 1st person references to third person

3) Delete those parts that are not needed

4) Move the remaining text to the order you want it in

5) Decide what you want to re-word (you might want to keep a Thesaurus handy and have spell-check enabled on your computer).

6) then add other things to it like what you like about their work, some things you notice from your own observation, what you think the artist is trying to convey, or what her art tells you about her.

7) Choose 2 or 3 pictures, descriptions from Etsy, or describe them yourself in your own words to illustrate another point in your story.

8) If you have certain unanswered questions you are not able to find the answers to convo and ask the artist so that you can fill in the blanks.

9) Think of a catchy title to sum it up and voila! There's a feature story!

Note: Don’t plagiarize (meaning don’t copy, paste, and publish into your blog word-for-word) from the artist’s blog, profile, or another feature story.

Thanks for the new thread, Giftbearer. For those doing this challenge, I want to give my permission to use my profile information from my shop or blog in their feature if that makes it easier on them.
