... simply isn't in any particular dire straits?

Sure, gas prices are up (to where they should have been years ago, truth be told), the value of the dollar is down, but this doesn't mean the economy is oh so bad.

We've been in a bit of a boom for nearly 10 years (for the most part) and now we're finally leveling out to what is actually reasonable rather than bottoming out to a future depression.

Anyone with me?

Yes, but I am in Canada. However, people have similar concerns, and I feel people talk the economy into recession. Certain sectors are certainly down, but that doesn't mean every industry will be affected.

Personally, the only shift we have felt is in gas prices. We probably pay $50 more per month now. But everything else seems the same.

No, I think it is bad for some people. Not everyone makes $75 an hour. But if you have a profusion of cash, spend it on Etsy, as I am sure sellers would appreciate it.

Have you seen how much the US Dollar has devalued...say against the EURO...? bad sign of the times would you not agree?

I agree! i'm sure a lot of people are hit hard, but it hasn't really affected my day to day life. I live in a big city, prices on just about everything are always high

Although when I went to Paris this spring I was pissy on how little my dollar got me.

Sorry; I can't agree.

I spent 30 years working in a Social Services environment; this is reminding me of the mid 1970's when the local unemployment rate was at 18%... with a high of 24% in the winter months.

The increase in gas prices (currently $475.999 locally) is incredibly difficult in a rural area where public transportation is limited. People at the lower end of the pole are making choices daily about what to give up in order to buy the gas to bet to work.

So, I am not surprised if ETSY sales are lower; I don't have the history with ETSY to say whether this season is better or worse than last season; I just plan to keep on keepin' on..... so long as I keep enjoying myself and keep it in proper perspective.
